In today's game, Neptunus was limited to only five basehits and was outhit 6-5, but it held opponent HCAW scoreless and won 2-0.

HCAW-starter Kaj Timmermans had another fine outing and struckout five batters in seven innings, giving up only four hits.

The righthander held Neptunus scoreless in the first three innings. In the second, he gave up a lead-off double to Gianison Boekhoudt, but he later stranded on third base. Timmermans retired the side in the third, but then gave up the first run in the fourth at bat.

Christian Diaz led off the fourth for Neptunus with a bunt-single and stole second base with one out. He then put Neptunus ahead with two outs when he advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single by Rien Vernooij.

Neptunus was unable to take more distance, as Timmermans retired the side again in the fifth and sixth inning, but the team was able to double its lead in the seventh. Neptunus got its first two batters on base when Gianison Boekhoudt led off with a walk and Rien Vernooij's bunt ended in an error. Ruar Verkerk followed with another bunt back to Timmermans, who forced out Boekhoudt on third base. Moments later, Verkerk scored on a single by Daniel Fernandes. Verkerk tried to advance to third base on the single, but was eliminated there.

Veteran Elton Koeiman threw a fine game for Neptunus and got the necessary defensive support when needed.Vince Rooi doubled and moved to third base when Rossini Frolijk reached on an error. But they were left behind when a grounder ended the at bat.

Neptunus turned a double play in the second inning, then HCAW left a runner on second base in the third and was retired in order in the fourth. After the third inning, HCAW didn't get into scoring position again in the remainder of the game.

In the top of the sixth, trailing 1-0, Dylan Koster led off for HCAW with a single. However, he was eliminated when a line drive by Vince Rooi ended in a double play.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Elton Koeiman was relieved by Czech pitcher Jan Tomek, who made his big league-debut. In 2016, Tomek pitched for the Czech National Team during the World Baseball Classic Qualifier and played for Buchbinder Regensburg Legionäre. With this German team, he participated in the European Champions Cup in Italy and San Marino. There, he threw a strong game against L&D Amsterdam Pirates and was in a pitching duel with Robin Schel. Amsterdam won the game 1-0 and went on to dethrone Neptunus and win the European Cup. This season, Tomek is on the roster of Tridents, the second team of Neptunus which plays in the second hightest league ('Overgangsklasse'). For today's game, Tomek was added to the roster of the main squad.

In the eighth inning, Tomek faced powerhitter Vince Rooi, who flied out. Tomek was then relieved by Berry van Driel in the ninth. He retired the side to earn his first save of the season.
