Nederlands
VLEUTEN (Neth.) -
Head Coach Ty Eriksen and Pickles UVV have separated, the club announced on Wednesday (June 7).
The American coach will be succeeded by Ritchie Daal, who was the Hiting Coach of the team.
Daal will lead the team in its next game on Thursday-evening when a 3-game series opens against HCAW.
Ty Eriksen was in his first season as Head Coach of UVV, which is currently in sixth place with a 6-13 record and two ties.
The team won an additional game in May against DSS, but was declared invalid when UVV inserted an ineligible player in the game.
The team got two points subtracted and the game had to be replayed, which then ended in a loss.
Eriksen was named new Head Coach of UVV in October as the successor of Ferenc Jongejan.
Last season, he played as an outfielder in the German big league for Munich-Haar Disciples, with whom he also played in the Euro League Baseball.
,,The players have qualities, but it didn't showed enough'', the club's chairman Merijn van Elsäcker said in statement against RTV Utrecht, which first reported the news on Wednesday.
,,The chemistry was not enough between players and coach'', Van Elsäcker continued.
,,We have have good talks and internal discussions and decided to end the association.''
Ty Eriksen stated against RTV Utrecht: ,,It is unfortunate that the association with the team didn't led to positive results.
But when there is no spark and when there eventually is no basis to continue and then it's better to separate.''
Eriksen will now focus on his Masters Degree.
Eriksen's successor Ritchie Daal is an experienced coach.
As a player, he played in the big league in the eighties and early nineties for Kinheim, De Spartaan and UVV, mostly as a short stop.
Daal also played in the Netherlands National Team.
Daal also coached at De Spartaan and later he was an Assistant Coach of the big league-squad of Amsterdam Pirates.
In following years, Daal became the Head Coach of the second teams of Amsterdam Pirates and Almere '90.
During the 2006 season, Daal took over as interim Head Coach of Almere '90.
He then led the squad the following year.
In both seasons, Almere played in the highest division.
Daal also has coached several youth teams.
