Green light for Haarlem Baseball Week 2018
Nederlands
HAARLEM (Neth.) -
There has been given a green light to host the 29th edition of the Haarlem Baseball Week next year.
The event will almost surely start around July 14 or 15 and will have five or six participating teams.
In December last year, the former Organizing Committee announced that a new edition was not realizable due to financial reasons.
In January, a Work Group was formed to bring the event back.
They worked very hard the previous months and were successful.
While the news of the 'green light' will officially be announced on Saturday (July 8), the Haarlems Dagblad it already brought the news today (Friday, July 7) on its website.
The first Baseball Week was organized in 1961 and has been very successful since.
It is organized every two years since 1978.
,,It is important that we can keep a great international event as the Baseball Week in Haarlem'', said Merijn Snoek, Alderman of Haarlem.
In recent months, several companies already have committed themselves to the event, while a crowdfund-action resulted in 5,500 Euro.
In coming weeks, a new Organizing Committee will be formed and talks continue to complete the field of participants.
Talks are going on with Italy and Cuba, but also the wellknown Japanese professional organization Tokyo Yomiuri Giants, which might sent a minor league-squad.
,,This is very important news.
Our policy states that we will have an international tournament each year for baseball and hopefully also for softball'', states Bart Volkerijk, who is the Director of the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB).
