The game appeared to go the way of HCAW.
The team took an early lead, rallied for four runs in the sixth and led 6-1 in the seventh inning.
Despite making seven defensive errors, UVV came back into the game and tied the score at 7-7 in the ninth inning.
HCAW opened the score with two runs in the second inning off of starter Timo van Ancum.
Kevin Dirksen led off with a single, then the bases got loaded with one out when Kevin Weijgertse also singled and Rachid Engelhardt was hit by a pitch.
Dirksen was then forced out at home on a grounder by Sven Jongejans, but Dylan Koster followed with a 2-run single.
UVV got one run back in its second inning off of starter Jim Ploeger.
With one out, UVV got the bases loaded when Mike Bazuin singled, Berend Ruben walked and Julian Goins also singled.
The run was then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Rijnbergen.
Ruben tried to advance to third base on the flyout, but was eliminated at third base in a double play.
That ended the inning, but Bazuin had scored before the third out had been made.
In the fourth inning, HCAW failed to take some more distance.
With two outs and a runner on first base, two HCAW-batters reached on an error that loaded the bases, but a flyout ended the inning.
HCAW then had a productive sixth at bat, scoring four runs off of Van Ancum.
All runs were unearned, as the UVV-defense committed four errors.
With two outs, Rachid Engelhardt walked, then an error was made on a force play-grounder by Sven Jongejans, which could have ended the at bat.
An error that followed a single by Dylan Koster then led to a run.
Two runs were added when next batter Roelie Henrique reached on the third error in the inning.
After Boyd Tuhumury also had reached on an error, a single by Vince Rooi lifted the lead to 6-1.
With three innings left, that lead appeared to be comfortable.
However, HCAW added only one more run, while UVV scored six to come alongside.
After Jim Ploeger had given up the first UVV-run in the second inning, he retired the side in the third and fifth inning.
In the fourth and sixth inning, the lefthander hit a batter.
The first was caught stealing, the second was left behind on first base.
Trailing 6-1, UVV rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sergino Martis led off with a double, moved on a grounder, then Berend Ruben walked with one out and moved on a wild pitch, which kept Martis at third base.
The two scored when Julian Goins followed with a double.
That led to a pitching change.
Moreno Vork took over from Ploeger, but he was greeted with a runscoring single from Brandon Rijnbergen.
A wild pitch and a single by Cecil Comenencia followed and Vork was replaced by Steven van Groningen.
He gave up a sacrifice fly to Rick Kuipers that narrowed the deficit to 6-5.
A grounder ended the inning.
In the top of the ninth inning, HCAW added a run.
Reliever Jimmy Osinga walked lead-off hitter Kevin Dirksen and was replaced by José Moreno.
He saw Dirksen advance on a sacrifice bunt and a grounder, then gave up a runscoring single to Rachid Engelhardt that made it a 7-5 score.
In the bottom of the ninth, UVV came very close to winning the game.
Brandon Rijnbergen led off with a single, then pinch-hitter Bryce Cherry also singled.
With one out, the two advanced on a grounder, then the bases got loaded when Steven van Groningen walked Randy Daal.
Hereafter, Oscar Meuris took over the pitching for HCAW, but he uncorked a runscoring wild pitch.
Next batter Sergino Martis then reached on an error, which enabled Cherry to score the tying run!
Daal advanced to third base and could have scored the winning run in the first game that UVV was led by his father Ritchie Daal as new Head Coach.
However, Daal Junior was left at third base, as Meuris closed the inning with a strikeout.
That also ended the game, as the 10:30 PM curfew had been reached.
