Twins struck with three runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Sander Helmendach.
With that, it took a decisive early lead and hold onto it to record only its fourth win of the season.
Helmendach began the opening inning by walking Jamie Verheyleweghen and Bram Grooten, then gave up runscoring singles to Dennis De Quint and Melvin Perdue.
A sacrifice squeeze by Nick Peels brought in the third run in the inning.
Helmendach then recovered, struckout the next batter and closed the inning by fielding a comeback-grounder.
The righthander retired the side in the second inning, then gave up a lead-off triple to Bram Grooten in the third inning.
Moments later, Grooten tried to score on a flyout into rightfield by Dennis De Quint, but he was eliminated at the plate on a nice throw from rightfielder Sven van de Sanden.
Twins then added a run in both the fourth and fifth inning.
In the fourth, with two outs, Gino Yonis and Menno Lenting both singled.
With runners at the corners, Lenting took off to steal second base and when an error at second base followed, Yonis was able to score.
In the fifth, Bram Grooten walked with one out and stole second base.
He then advanced on a grounder and scored the fifth run for Twins on an infield-hit by Melvin Perdue.
Helmendach retired the side again in the sixth, then was relieved by Robyn Clara in the seventh.
The righthander did fine and allowed only one more runner to get into scoring position.
DSS faced Australian righthander Jeremy Atkinson, who made his second start of the season for Twins.
He did better than a month ago when he started against L&D Amsterdam Pirates on May 6 when he made his big league-debut.
Atkinson then walked two and gave up seven hits and eight earned runs in two innings.
Tonight, he threw seven fine innings, gave up only five hits and held DSS scoreless.
After having retired the side in the first inning, Atkinson gave up singles to Tino van Erk and Djewi Appelman with one out in the second inning, but a line drive hit by Sven van de Sanden then resulted in a double play.
Van Erk returned to the line-up tonight after being sidelined in the last two innings with a minor back-injury.
In the third and fifth inning, the Twins-defense made another inning-ending double play.
In between, DSS got a chance to do something back in the fourth when it got the bases loaded.
With two outs, Tino van Erk reached on an error, Djewi Appelman singled and Sven van de Sanden walked, but a flyout closed the at bat.
Trailing 5-0, DSS scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off of new pitcher Jan Evertse.
Kevin Nieveld led off with a single on the first pitch he saw and Koen Halderman walked.
The two moved on a wild pitch, then a run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Omar Williams.
Tino van Erk followed with a runscoring single.
After a flyout accounted for the second out, Evertse was replaced by Daisuke Yamashita, who made his first relief appearances after three starts in the previous weeks.
In this series, the Japanese righthander is used as a reliever, as he was not assigned to start one of the three games.
Yamashita began with a walk for Sven van de Sanden, but a pop-up ended the inning.
In the ninth, DSS scored another run.
Yamashita began with a strikeout, but then gave up a double to Odion Gouverneur.
With two outs, he moved to third base when Koen Halderman reached on an error.
Gouverneur scored when next batter Omar Williams singled to narrow the deficit to 5-3.
But with runners on first and second base, the game ended when pinch-hitter Devano Pieter grounded out.
