Another award for Andrelton Simmons: Defensive Player of the Year

Three days after winning his third Rawlings Gold Glove Award, Andrelton Simmons won another defensive award.
On Friday (September 10), the winners were announced of the Wilson Defensive Players of the Year.
And Simmons won again, as he was named the best defensive short stop and won the Award for the third time in four years.

The winners of the Gold Glove are decided by voting from managers and coaches of the 30 Major League-teams.
There is a Gold Glove-winner for each position in both leagues.
The winners of the Defensive Player of the Year, which are handed out since 2012, are determined using a formula that considers several sabermatic analysis.
That formula includes defensive Wins Above Replacement (25 percent), Defensive Runs Saved (25 percent), Inside Edge fielding ratings (20 percent), Inside Edge arm ratings (20 percent) and Fielding Percentage (10 percent).
A different formula is used for pitchers and catchers.
Initially, an award was given to the best defensive player on each team.
But from 2014 on, the awards are given to the best defensive player for each position in both leagues combined.
There also is an award for the Best Overall Defensive Player and the Best Defensive Team.
The 28-year old Curaçao-born and raised Andrelton Simmons made his Major League-debut in 2012 with Atlanta Braves and has been frequently praised for his defensive qualities.
In November 2015, Simmons was traded to Los Angeles Angels.
Since the introduction of the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, Simmons already won five, including this years!
In 2013, Simmons won the Award for the Best Defensive Player of Atlanta Braves.
In 2014 and 2015, he won for Best Defensive Short Stop, which he did again today.
Last year, Brandon Crawford (San Francisco Giants) was the best short stop.
In 2015, Simmons also won the Best Overall Defensive Player Award.
Simmons won back-to-back Gold Gloves in 2013 and 2014 while playing for Atlanta Braves.
In 2013, Simmons also won the Platinum Glove for the best defensive player in the entire National League.
