It was HCAW that opened the score in the top of the second inning after Neptunus had left two runners behind in the bottom of the first inning.
In the second, Neptunus-starter Kevin Kelly struggled.
With one out, he got the bases loaded when he walked Seb Visser and Tim Niekerk, then hit next batter Kevin Weijgertse with a pitch.
As some of the players (of both teams) arrived late at the stadium due to a traffic jam, there was a surprise player in the starting line-up of HCAW, as pitcher Tim Niekerk was listed as the designated hitter.
In his first at bat in the second inning, Niekerk had an 0-2 count, but then walked and later scored.
With the bases loaded, Kelly struckout the next batter, but also walked Boyd Tuhumury to bring in the first run.
A single by Roele Henrique then brought in Niekerk.
However, the inning ended when Weijgerste was eliminated at the plate when he also tried to score on Henrique's hit.
Neptunus got one run back in its second at bat.
With two outs, Brian Raap doubled off of starter Ian Delemarre and scored on a following single by Jochem Koedijk.
The latter stole second base and Stijn van der Meer walked, but they were left behind.
In the top of the third inning, HCAW got its first two hitters on base.
Kevin Dirksen led off with a double and Vince Rooi walked.
Hereafter, Rachid Engelhardt was called out on strikes, which eventually led to his ejection after his reaction.
The inning ended when Seb Visser lined into a double play.
Moments later, Neptunus came alongside in the bottom of the second inning.
Lead-off hitter Gianison Boekhoudt reached on an error and moved on a single by Daniel Fernandes.
Boekhoudt then moved to third base on a flyout, but was unable to advance on a force play-grounder by Shaldimar Daantji.
When the latter stole second base, the pitch ended in a wild pitch, which enabled Boekhoudt to score and brought Daantji to third base, where he was left behind.
In the top of the fourth, veteran Elton Koeiman took over the Neptunus-pitching.
With two outs, he gave up a single to Raoell Kortstam, who started the game in rightfield, but took over behind the plate after Engelhardt had been ejected.
Catching is an unfamiliar position for Kortstam, who has mostly played in the outfield.
However, HCAW had a catching-problem, as Sven Jongejans is injured, Dylan Koster has just returned home from Canada, where he participated with the Netherlands Under-18 Team in the World Championship and fill-in catcher Dexter de Weert was not with the team tonight.
After reaching first base, Kortstam stole second base, but then was left behind.
In the bottom of the fifth, Neptunus broke the 2-2 tie on three hits and three walks.
With one out, Gianison Boekhoudt walked and the bases got loaded when Daniel Fernandes and Gregory Muller singled.
Shaldimar Daantji followed with a runscoring infield-hit.
With two outs, Ian Delemarre walked Brian Raap and Jochem Koedijk, resulting in two more runs and a pitching change.
Moreno Vork took over and got an inning-ending grounder.
Neptunus then decided the game in the sixth, scoring six runs on only two basehits.
In this inning, there were six walks and three wild pitches!
Dwayne Kemp led off with a double.
Kemp had entered the game in the top of the fifth inning, replacing second baseman Benjamin Dille, who left out of precaution, as is looked like he might have suffered a hamstring-injury or was bothered by cramp.
Gianison Boekhoudt walked, which also was a wild pitch, enabling Kemp to move to third base.
He then scored on a following double by Daniel Fernandes.
Boekhoudt then scored on another wild pitch.
With Fernandes on third base, Gregory Muller walked, which was the first of four consecutive walks.
After Muller had reached base, Giovanni Tensen took over from Moreno Vork, but he walked Shaldimar Daantji to load the bases, then also walked Ruar Verkerk and Brian Raap to bring in two runs.
That led to another pitching change.
Jasper Popken took over and got a force play-grounder from Jochem Koedijk, which also accounted for the next run.
Another run was then scored on a wild pitch and Popken followed with a walk for Stijn van der Meer, but a double play ended the inning.
Leading 11-2 after six innings, Neptunus needed only one more run to reach the mercy-rule run-difference.
That run didn't come, instead HCAW scored three in the seventh to make it an 11-5 score.
Elton Koeiman gave up a lead-off infield-hit to Kevin Weijgertse and got the bases loaded when he walked Raoell Kortstam and gave up a single to Boyd Tuhumury.
That was followed by a 2-run single from Roelie Henrique.
With one out, Vince Rooi grounded towards third for what appeared to become a force out.
Instead, an error was made, which enabled Tuhumury to score.
The inning then ended with a double play.
Neptunus scored the run it needed somewhat earlier in the eighth off of new pitcher Sedley Karel.
He also got the bases loaded when he gave up a lead-off single to Brian Raap, then walked Jochem Koedijk and Stijn van der Meer.
Raap then scored on a force play-grounder by Dwayne Kemp, who was then replaced by pinch-runner Den Seelbach, who in the ninth inning became the third second baseman tonight for Neptunus.
With Seelbach at first base and Koedijk at third, the bases were loaded again when Gianison Boekhoudt became the 15th batter to receive a walk.
No runs were added, as the inning ended with a double play.
Loek van Mil pitched the top of the ninth for Neptunus and retired the side to end the game.
