Others who have been contacted, according to the reports, are Aaron Boone, Jerry Hairston, Jr. and Chris Woodward.
Boone played for the Yankees in 2003 and currently is a TV-commentator for ESPN, Hairston played for the Yankees in 2009 (and then won the World Series) and now is a TV-commentator for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Woodward has been the 3B Coach of the Dodgers the past two seasons.
Last year, he was the Manager of New Zealand during the World Baseball Classic Qualifying Tournament.
Rob Thomson and Eric Wedge already have been interviewed.
Thomson is the Bench Coach of the Yankees since 2008.
Wedge has been active as Manager of the Cleveland Indians (2003-2009) and Seattle Mariners (2011-2013).
Bryan Hoch reported from New York on Wednesday that the names of the candidates are not publicly revealed or confirmed until after they have been interviewed.
Hoch also reported that New York's General Manager Brian Cashman stated that he is patient in his search for a new Manager.
On Tuesday, Chris Haft reported from San Francisco that Meulens got permission from the Giants to talk with the Yankees and could be interviewed later this week or early next week.
New York Yankees is currently the only Major League-team without a Manager.
On October 26, the Yankees announced that Joe Girardi would not return as its Manager.
Five days earlier, the Yankees lost the American League Championship Series against Houston Astros, resulting in elimination.
Girardi's contract expired a few days later and was not renewed.
The former catcher led the Yankees since 2008, winning the World Series in 2009.
Also on October 26, the San Francisco Giants announced that Hensley Meulens was named Bench Coach in the staff of Manager Bruce Bochy.
Since 2010, the Curaçao-born Meulens was the Hitting Coach of the Giants with whom he won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
Meulens took over the position of Bench Coach from Ron Wotus, who became the new 3B Coach.
These were two of several changes in the coaching staff of the Giants after the conclusion of the season.
The 50-year old Meulens was the Manager of the Netherlands Kingdom Baseball Team during the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Both times, Meulens guided the Orange squad to the Semi-Final.
In 2015, he also was the Manager of the Netherlands Team during the first-ever Premier12 in Taiwan.
In 1989, Meulens became the first Antillian-born player to reach the Major League when he made his debut with the New York Yankees.
He primarily played in leftfield, but also was used at first base and third base in the five seasons (1989-1993) he played for the Yankees.
Meulens also played for Montreal Expos (1997) and Arizona Diamondbacks (1998).
He also played in Japan.
Meulens also played for the Netherlands National Team, including the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney (Australia) and the 2001 World Championship in Taiwan.
Since the end of the season, five other teams named a new Manager.
Alex Cora succeeded John Farrell at the Boston Red Sox, Ron Gardenhire took over from Brad Ausmus at Detroit Tigers, Mickey Callaway replaces Terry Collins at New York Mets, Gabe Kapler succeeded Pete Mackanin at Philadelphia Phillies and Dave Martinez replaced Dusty Baker at Washington Nationals.
