Four more games rain out on Saturday
Nederlands
ROTTERDAM / AMSTERDAM / HAARLEM / AMERSFOORT -
On Saturday (September 16), four more games were canceled due to rain and field-conditions.
Two of the games were scheduled to be played in the Championship Pool, the other two in the Promotion/Relegation Pool.
Last Thursday-evening, the opening games of the 3-game series in the Championship Pool also rained out.
With a temperature of 12,9° Celsius (55,2° Fahrenheit), today was the coldest September 16 in history, according to Weeronline.
The previous record was 13,4° C (56,1° F), which was set in 1972.
Last year, it was 21,2° C (70,2° F) on September 16.
Last year, according to the KNMI, with an average temperature of 17,3° C (63,1° F), September was the third hottest month in history since 1706, when weather measurements were first registered regularly.
Only one game was played today, but started one hour later.
In Haarlem, DSS crushed Pickles UVV with a 16-1 score in 6½ inning in the Promotion/Relegation Pool.
Because of UVV's loss, Quick Amersfoort promoted and will return to the Dutch big league next season.
UVV has one game remaining and closes in on relegation.
The lone scenario to avoid this is a win by UVV on Sunday against DSS, while Storks has to lose twice against Onze Gezellen.
When that happens, UVV, Storks and Onze Gezellen will end up in a 3-way tie, meaning tiebreaker-games have to be played to decide the final ranking.
Recap of the DSS vs. UVV game
In the Championship Pool, Curaçao Neptunus was to host Hoofddorp Pioniers, while L&D Amsterdam Pirates was to play at home against HCAW.
The Neptunus vs. Pioniers game was re-sechuled for coming Tuesday-evening, while Pirates and HCAW will make up their game on Monday-evening.
Last Thursday-evening, the opening games of these 3-game series also rained out and then where re-scheduled for respectively Monday and Tuesday.
This means that the teams now will open their series on Sunday, followed by make-up games on Monday and Tuesday.
Neptunus and Amsterdam are still one win away from clincing a spot in the best-of-seven Holland Series, which opens on Thursday, September 28.
In the Promotion/Relegation Pool, Quick Amersfoort was to play at home against De Glaskoning Twins, while Onze Gezellen was to play against Storks.
The Quick vs. Twins game has been re-scheduled for Sunday and will be played as the first game of a double-header before the regular scheduled game between the two teams in Oosterhout.
Onze Gezellen and Storks will make up their game coming Tuesday-evening.
Storks needs one victory to also promote to next years big league.
Because of Thursday's and today's rain-outs, some pitching rotations were adjusted for the coming days.
