Starter Dion Steijl threw six fine innings for Pioniers, striking out five batters and giving up only five basehits.
Besides that, the lefthander held Neptunus scoreless, while his teammates provided him with an 8-0 lead!
However, after Steijl left the mound, the bullpen of Pioniers failed completely and gave up seven hits and 13 runs in two innings, resulting in a 13-8 loss!
Neptunus-starter Kevin Kelly ran into problems right from the beginning.
The righthander walked six batters, gave up three hits and six earned runs and needed 67 pitches in the 2 2/3 inning he pitched.
In the top of the first inning, Kelly walked lead-off hitter Oliver van der Wijst Severino and with one out, he also walked Max Draijer.
Hereafter, with two outs, Dudley Leonora delivered a 2-run double to give Pioniers an early lead.
In the second inning, Kelly held Pioniers scoreless.
With one out, he walked Sander Paap, who advanced on a passed ball with two outs, but Kelly then closed with a strikeout.
Pioniers rallied for four runs in the top of the third inning.
Kelly walked lead-off hitter Mervin Gario, who stole second base and moved on a throwing error.
The righthander then also walked Max Draijer, which was followed by runscoring singles from Jeffrey Arends and Dudley Leonora.
Hereafter, Kelly got the bases loaded when he walked Shurman Marlin.
Another run was added while Marlin was forced out at second base on a grounder by Glenn Bakker.
With runners on the corners, a double-steal was executed with Bakker moving to second base, while Leonora scored to lift the lead to 6-0.
After Kelly struckout next batter Sander Paap, he was relieved by Stefan Iannelli, who got an inning-ending flyout.
Pioniers added another (unearned) run in the fourth inning, but then also left three runners behind.
Oliver van der Wijst Severino led off with a walk.
He then stole second base, advanced on a throwing error and scored with one out when Max Draijer reached on another error.
With two outs, the bases got loaded when Dudley Leonora and Shurman Marlin walked, but a foul-out then ended the at bat.
In the top of the fifth inning, Pioniers lifted the lead to 8-0.
Sander Paap led off with a double and scored on an one-out single by Oliver van der Wijst Severino, who later stranded himself on second base.
In the next four innings, Pioniers would reach base only one more time, while Neptunus turned the game around.
Trailing 2-0, Neptunus got two baserunners in the bottom of the first inning off of Dion Steijl.
With one out, Gregory Muller walked and Gianison Boekhoudt singled, but a double play ended the inning.
In the second inning, Steijl gave up a lead-off single to Daniel Fernandes, who later stranded on second base, as the lefthander closed with a strikeout.
In the third, it was Jochem Koedijk who led off for Neptunus with a single, but he was forced out on a grounder by Stijn van der Meer.
Hereafter, Gregory Muller walked and the two runners advanced on a double-steal.
They stranded on second and third base.
Steijl retired the side in the fourth and saw his defense turn another double play in the fifth.
With a runner on first base in the sixth and two outs, Steijl closed with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the bullpen took over the Pioniers-pitching and then things went wrong.
Neptunus rallied for seven runs in the seventh and added six runs in the eighth to avoid a big humiliating loss.
In the seventh, Taylor Clemensia took over from Dion Steijl.
This season, the lefthander played in his second professional season at the Rookie League-level in the organization of the Minnesota Twins.
Clemensia walked lead-off hitter Shaldimar Daantji, then hit next hitter Ruar Verkerk with a pitch.
Darryl Collins then reached on an infield-hit, which was followed by a throwing error, resulting in a run and runners on second and third base.
The bases got loaded when Jochem Koedijk walked and the next run was scored when a balk was called.
Moments later, the bases got loaded again when Stijn van der Meer also walked.
A pitching change followed and Glenn Wassink took over with the bases loaded and no outs.
An infield-fly accounted for the first out, but hereafter, Gianison Boekhoudt delivered a runscoring single.
Another run was added on a grounder by Dwayne Kemp.
Hereafter, Daniel Fernandes connected for a 2-run single and Shaldimar Daantji delivered a runscoring triple that narrowed the deficit to only 8-7.
A flyout ended the long and productive at bat, but it had become a complete new ball-game, which now clearly started to turn in favor of Neptunus.
In the meantime, Misja Harcksen had relieved Stefan Iannelli in the top of the seventh inning.
He retired the side, then was supported with a double play in the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, Darryl Jamoena became the new pitcher for Pioniers, but he faced only three batters.
He walked lead-off hitter Darryl Collins, who advanced on a balk.
Next batter Jochem Koedijk also walked and Jamoena then made a throwing error towards third base on a bunt by Stijn van der Meer.
With the bases loaded, Maickel Rietel took over from Jamoena.
He also faced only three batters, but they produced six runs!
Rietel was greeted with a runscoring single by Gregory Muller, which tied the score.
Gianison Boekhoudt then hit a 2-run single and Dwayne Kemp followed with a 3-run homerun that made it a 13-8 score.
Angelo Wicklert then became the third pitcher in this inning.
The righthander struckout all three batters he faced to end the inning!
In the top of the ninth inning, Loek van Mil pitched for Neptunus.
He retired the side to end this bizarre game.
