Didi Gregorius leaves Netherlands Team with injury
Nederlands

LOS ANGELES, California (USA) - On Monday (March 20), it was announced that infielder Didi Gregorius has left the Netherlands Kingdom Team with an injury. Because of this, he will not be play for the team on Monday-evening when it meets Puerto Rico in the Semi-Final of the World Baseball Classic in Los Angeles.

In a short press release, it was announced that Gregorius has an injury to his right-shoulder and has returned to New York for further examination. Gregorius, who plays for the New York Yankees, has played in all six games the Orange-squad has played so far in the Classic. He also played in last Saturday's exhibition game agaist the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Arizona.

In the six WBC-games, Gregorius collected eight basehits in 23 at bats, one of them being a homerun, and batted in eight runs. In five of the games, Gregorius was the designated hitter in the line-up of Manager Hensley Meulens. In one game, he was the short stop, which was against Israel in the First Round. Last Saturday, Gregorius played at short and at second base against the Diamondbacks.

Because Gregorius left with an injury, it was possible to replace him on the active roster with another player. Chadwick Tromp, who was with the team as Bullpen Catcher, was activated and replaced Gregorius to make him eligible to play.
