Bayron Cornelisse had a fine outing in his first-ever start, as he struckout nine batters in seven innings, while giving up only six basehits.
He gave up a single in both the first and second inning, but both runners stranded on second base.
UVV then scored twice off of Cornelisse in the third at bat.
Rick Kuipers led off with a single, then appeared to be caught stealing at second base, but an error was made.
After Cornelisse struckout the next batter, he walked Tijmen Takke.
Another strikeout followed, but this time, Cornelisse gave up runscoring singles to Mike Bazuin and Julian Rip, which gave UVV a 2-0 lead.
But that was to be all for the home team.
DSS got on base in its first three at bats off of starter Timo van Ancum, but was held scoreless.
UVV turned a double play in the first inning.
DSS then got is first two batters on base in the third inning when Devano Pieter and Mitchel Dautzenberg both singled, but they were left behind.
Trailing 2-0, DSS got one run back in the fourth inning.
Omar Williams led off with a double, then Tino van Erk was hit by a pitch.
After the two had moved on a sacrifice bunt, a run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Sven van de Sanden.
In the fifth inning, DSS turned the game its way.
Kevin Nieveld led off with a triple and scored the tying run on a following single by Odion Gouverneur.
DSS got the bases loaded with one out when Omar Williams and Tino van Erk both walked.
The Haarlem-squad took a 3-2 lead when Gouverneur scored on a sacrifice fly by Tommy van de Sanden.
DSS added another run in the sixth off of new pitcher Jerremyh Angela, thanks to a runscoring single by Koen Halderman.
DSS then decided the game by scoring four runs in the seventh on only one basehit, while the UVV-defense contributed with two errors, resulting in two unearned runs.
Lead-off hitter Tino van Erk was hit by a pitch for the second time (he also walked three times), then was awarded second base on a balk.
Tommy van de Sanden then walked and the bases got loaded when an error was made on a sacrifice bunt by Sven van de Sanden.
No out was then recorded on a fielder's choice-grounder by Devano Pieter, which resulted in a run, but was also followed by an error, which gave DSS another run.
Two more runs were later added on a single by Mitchel Dautzenberg to lift the lead to 8-2.
After giving up the two runs in the third inning, Bayron Cornelisse didn't encounter big problems.
He gave up a lead-off double to Julian Goins in the fourth, but retired the next three batters.
After retiring the side in the fifth, Cornelisse saw Jordan Illis reached second base on an error.
Moments later, Illis, who started the season with DSS, was caught stealing at third base.
In the seventh, Cornelisse retired the side again (two strikeouts), then was relieved by Robyn Clara in the eighth.
He also retired the side and as the 10:30 curfew-rule time had been reached, the game ended after eight complete innings.
