NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) -
The second game of the 3-game series between Pickles UVV and DSS, which was played on Saturday, May 13, has been declared invalid by the KNBSB.
On the mentioned date, UVV won the game with an 8-7 score to win its second game of the series.
Two days before, UVV had won the opener with a 5-4 score.
In the third game of the series on Sunday, DSS came from behind and rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to win 5-4 and avoid a sweep.
In the second game of the series, which was played at the home-site of UVV in Vleuten, an ineligible player was inserted.
UVV led 8-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Tal Erel was inserted as pinch-runner for Steven van Reem.
Moments later, the bases got loaded, but a force out at the plate and a strikeout followed.
The inning ended when Erel was forced out at the plate in a strikeout-passed-ball-fielder's-choice-situation.
Erel stayed in the game and was the catcher for UVV in the top of the ninth inning.
DSS then scored one run, but lost 8-7.
When he entered the game, Erel became the first Israelian player in the Dutch big league.
However, the catcher was not listed on the official team-roster and because of that, he was not eligible to play for the squad.
Because UVV used an inelible player, it got two points subtracted.
Furthermore, as UVV won the game, it was declared invalid and has to be replayed in its entirety at the site of DSS.
The game has been re-scheduled for Tuesday-evening, May 30 and will be played in Haarlem.
Both UVV and DSS have confirmed the situation and the re-scheduling of the game.
Unfortunately enough, it will take some time for Tal Erel to make his new official debut.
Last Friday-evening (May 19), he played in the second team of UVV in the First Division and broke his femur (thigh bone), while sliding into first base, meaning he will be sidelined for quite some time.
