Tonight's game started eight minutes later than scheduled, due to some maintenance work to the mound.
That was needed due to the heavy rain that struck the site earlier in the afternoon.
Before the game began, a ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Mats van de Sanden, who celebrated his ninth birthday today.
He is the younger brother of DSS-players Sven and Tommy van de Sanden.
Pioniers opened the score with three runs in the first inning of the game, which was played in some strong winds.
DSS-starter Sander Helmendach didn't have his best outing tonight, as he walked four batters in the first inning and gave up one hit, resulting in three runs.
With one out, the righthander got the bases loaded when he walked Mervin Gario, gave up a single to Dudley Leonora and also walked Jeffrey Arends.
Hereafter, Helmendach also walked Quintin De Cuba and Glenn Bakker, resulting in two runs and then gave up another run that was scored on a force play-grounder by Max Draijer.
Pioniers, which scored in all seven innings, scored its next run in the second at bat when rookie Joey Eeman homered with one out.
This was the first homerun in his big league-career.
In the third, it was Max Draijer, who homered with one out to lift the lead to 6-0.
Pioniers scored its next run in the fourth off of Helmendach, who recovered somewhat after the first inning,
With one out, Mervin Gario walked, then next batter Dudley Leonora was hit hard on the his shoulder by a pitch, which led to some exchanges of words.
Moments later, the runners advanced on a wild pitch, then a run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeffrey Arends.
In the fifth inning, Robyn Clara took over the pitching for DSS.
He walked lead-off hitter Max Draijer, who then moved from first to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder by Sander Paap.
In the sixth, Dudley Leonora led off with a double and scored on a 2-out line drive single by pinch-hitter Shurman Marlin that hit pitcher Clara and ended up in centerfield.
Clara was able to continue the game.
With this, Pioniers now led 9-0 and needed only one more run to reach the mercy-rule run-difference.
That run, and two more, came in the top of the seventh.
Sander Paap led off with a single and Mervin Gario singled with two outs.
Hereafter, Dudley Leonora homered to lift the lead to 12-0.
Leonora only missed the triple to hit for-the-cycle.
Lars Huijer pitched a strong game for Pioniers.
The righthander struckout 12 batters and allowed only two batters to reach base.
In the second inning, he gave up a lead-off line drive basehit through the middle to Tino van Erk.
With two outs in the fifth, Huijer walked Kevin Nieveld.
DSS never got into scoring position, as both runners stranded on first base.
Huijer got some nice defensive support, especially from third baseman Mervin Gario, who made two great plays.
Second baseman Dudley Leonora also made a nice play in the first inning.
