DSS-starter Donny Breek had a great outing this afternoon.
The righthander threw six complete innings and recorded a career-high eleven strikeouts, while walking two batters and giving up only three hits.
When Breek was relieved in the top of the seventh, DSS led 1-0, meaning he was in line to become the winning pitcher.
However, he ended up with a no-decision.
Breek's successor Tim Halderman gave up a run in the top of the eighth inning, which tied the score.
Instead of Breek, Halderman became the winning pitcher, as DSS scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
It marked the third time this season that Halderman first was credited with a Blown Save, but ended up being the winning pitcher.
Breek retired the first nine batters he faced.
After a lead-off grounder, Breek struckout the next eight consecutive batters!
This is the longest streak of striking out this many consecutive batters in a very long time in the Dutch big league.
In the top of the fourth inning, Breek gave up a lead-off single to Rick Kuipers.
He then retired the next three batters again, including two more strikeouts.
Kuipers stole second base with one out and moved on a grounder, but stranded on third base.
DSS left a runner on first base in the first inning off of starter Jurjen van Zijl.
In the second, Devano Pieter singled with two outs for the home team, but was caught stealing.
In the bottom of the third inning, DSS got a chance to open the score, but left three runners behind.
With one out, Mitchel Dautzenberg singled and moved on an error, then Kevin Nieveld reached on another error.
The latter was then forced out on a grounder by Odion Gouverneur, then the bases got loaded when Koen Halderman walked.
But a flyout ended the at bat.
DSS then did open the score in the next at bat.
Tino van Erk led off with a walk, but he was caught stealing with one out.
Hereafter, Devano Pieter tripled and scored the first run when Thomas Bos followed with a single.
UVV left another runner on third base in the fifth.
First, Mike Bazuin led off with a walk, but he was picked off by Donny Breek at first base.
After Breek struckout his eleventh batter, he gave up a single to Jelle Blaauw.
Julian Rip followed with a single, which led to runners on second and third base, where they were left behind.
In the bottom of the fith, Kevin Nieveld led off for DSS with a double, but stranded on third base.
In the sixth, UVV also got its lead-off hitter on base.
Rick Kuipers led off with a bunt and when Breek made a throwing error, he ended up on second base.
With two outs, Breek walked Sergino Martis, but a force play closed the at bat.
Still leading only 1-0, Tim Halderman took over the pitching for DSS in the seventh.
He gave up a 2-out double to Berend Ruben, but closed with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the seventh, DSS got another chance to take some more distance off of new pitcher Jimmy Osinga.
He gave up a lead-off single to Thomas Bos, who moved on a sacrifice bunt by Mitchel Dautzenberg.
Kevin Nieveld then walked and the two runners moved on a wild pitch while Osinga struckout a batter.
The two runners were left behind.
As DSS failed to score, it was UVV that finally did score a run in the top of the eighth.
Rick Kuipers led off with a single and scored the tying run on an one-out double by Tijmen Takke, who himself would be left behind on second base.
DSS reached base again in its eighth off of new pitcher José Moreno.
Omar Williams led off with a single, then pinch-hitter Djewi Appelman singled with one out, but they also would be left behind.
After UVV had left a runner behind on first base in the top of the ninth, DSS scored the winning run moments later.
New pitcher Roland Laurens gave up singles to Mitchel Dautzenberg and Kevin Nieveld, who then were awarded the next base on a balk.
A grounder followed and with first base open, a force play was created by walking Koen Halderman intentionally.
That force play-grounder indeed came, as next batter Tommy van de Sanden hit the ball towards second base.
Second baseman Tijmen Takke threw the ball to catcher Julian Goins, who then made an error, which enabled Dautzenberg to score the winning run and end the game.
