AMSTERDAM (Neth.) -
L&D Amsterdam Pirates won 4-1 on Thursday-evening (August 24) in the opening game of a 3-game series against HCAW in the Championship Pool.
Last week, Amsterdam recorded two 4-1 victories in a 3-game sweep against Hoofddorp Pioniers.
The series continues on Saturday in Bussum.
Amsterdam opened the score in the first inning on a force play-grounder by Gilmer Lampe and a double by Kenny Berkenbosch.
Two runs were added in the fourth thanks to a single by Lampe and a sacrifice fly by Danny Rombley.
Trailing 4-0, HCAW scored its lone run in the fourth on a double by Gianni Frolijk.
Amsterdam-starter Rob Cordemans struckout eight batters and gave up only four hits in the seven innings he pitched.
Daan Hendrix took over in the eighth inning.
With two outs and runners on first and second base, Nick Veltkamp took over the pitching, got a game-ending flyout and earned a save.
