De Hazenkamp vs. Hoofddorp Pioniers (Game 1)
Due to some injuries, Pioniers Head Coach Dè Flanegin added several players to its roster this weekend from the second team of Pioniers, which will play in the second highest league this year.

Pioniers left two runners behind in the first inning off of veteran pitcher Garrelt Klaassen. He got two runners on base with one out, but then followed with a strikeout and a grounder ended the at bat.

Pioniers was more successful in the second inning. Sander Paap led off with a single, advanced on a passed ball, then moved to third base on a double by Glenn Bakker. With one out, Paap scored on a grounder by Joey Eeman, who is one of the added players from the second team.

In the following innings, Pioniers was unable to take more distance, despite getting runners on base. In the third, Mervin Gario doubled with one out, but stranded on second base. In the fourth, two batters walked, but one was caught stealing, the other was left behind. In the fifth, Rossini Frolijk singled with one out, but was forced out.

In the meantime, Pioniers-starter Nick Keur held De Hazenkamp scoreless and gave up only one basehit in the first three innings. The lefthander struckout the side in the first inning. He then gave up a lead-off single to Dylan Kamoen in the second, but his defense then turned a double play. Keur closed with another strikeout.

In the fourth, American Chris Pfau took over the pitching. He also retired the side in his first inning (two strikeouts), but then saw De Hazenkamp come alongside in the fifth. Former big league-player Rodney Michel led off with a double and scored when next batter Wesley Kamoen singled down the rightfield-line. Moments later, Kamoen was picked off on first base and the next two batters were eliminated, but the score was 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, Pioniers got its first two batters on base, but this time, it was De Hazenkamp that made a double play. Pioniers re-took the lead in the top of the seventh off of Rodney Michel, who took over the pitching. He gave up a lead-off double to Joey Eeman, who scored with one out on a pinch-hit single by Shen Flanegin, another player who was added from the second team. With two outs, Jeffrey Arends doubled, but that also led to the third out, as Flanegin was eliminated at the plate trying to score.

Rookie-pitcher Angelo Wicklert took over the Pioniers-pitching in the sixth and retired the side. In the seventh, he gave up a 2-out single, but ended the game with a strikeout. Last weekend, Wicklert was the starting pitcher for the second team in a game against the main squad and was the losing pitcher. Today, he made his debut in the first team and was credited with with the win.
