HOOFDDORP (Neth.) -
Hoofddorp Pioniers won 2-1 against Curaçao Neptunus in the second game of their series in the Championship Pool on Saturday (August 26).
For Pioniers, this was its first win in this pool, while Neptunus suffered its first loss.
Last Thursday, Neptunus won the opener with a 3-0 score.
The series ends on Sunday in Rotterdam.
Neptunus took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a basesloaded single by Dwayne Kemp.
But the team left three runners behind when an infield-fly and strikeout followed.
Pioniers, which was outhit 9-6, came alongside immediately in its first at bat on a single by Jeffrey Arends.
The home team then took the lead in the second inning on a single by Mark Smit.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the benches emptied after Mervin Gario (Pioniers) was hit by a pitch from reliever Loek van Mil, who earlier in the week welcomed a daughter.
There were some exchanges of words and some shuffling, but order was restored quickly, no one was ejected and the game continued.
