KIA Tigers evens Korean Series with 1-0 shutout

GWANGJU (South Korea) -
KIA Tigers, the team of Dutch outfielder Roger Bernadina evenened the best-of-seven against Doosan Bears on Thursday-evening (October 26) with an 1-0 shutout-victory.
Reigning champion Doosan Bears had won the opener on Wednesday with a 5-3 score.
In that game, Bernadina hit a 3-run homerun for Tigers.
He also was involved in the lone run in today's game.
The Series continues on Saturday in Seoul, where the next three games will be played in the stadium of Bears.
At Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, lefthander Hyeon-jong Yang threw a complete game for KIA Tigers.
He gave up only four basehits and struckout eleven hitters.
Won-jun Chang, also a lefthander, started for the Bears and threw seven innings.
The game was pitching-duel between the two lefties.
The Tigers collected five basehits in the game, including two by Roger Bernadina.
After the Bears had left a runner behind on second base in the top of the first inning, the Tigers got its lead-off hitter on base on an error.
A double play followed, but hereafter, Bernadina walked and stole second base.
He also stranded in scoring position.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bernadina hit a lead-off single into left-centerfield.
But moments later, he was eliminated in a close pick-off at first base.
Powerhitter Hyung-woo Choi then doubled, but also was left behind.
In the top of the sixth, the Bears came close to the opening run.
With one out, Byung-heon Min drilled the ball into centerfield where it hit the wall, just missing a homerun.
With two outs, a batter walked, but hereafter, Hyeon-jong Yang closed with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the sixth, Roger Bernadina reached on an infield-hit with one out, but this time, he stranded on first base.
The lone run was then scored in the eighth inning after Chang was relieved.
Deok-ju Ham took over the pitching, but gave up a lead-off double down the rightfield-line to Joo-chan Kim.
Hereafter, Kim advanced to third base on a nice sacrifice bunt by Roger Bernadina.
That brought in new pitcher Kang-ryul Kim, who walked Hyung-woo Choi.
Next hitter Ji-wan Na followed with a grounder towards third baseman Kyoung-min Hur.
Kim took off towards home on the grounder by Na and got into a rundown.
Two throws between Hur and catcher Eui-ji Yang followed (5-2-5-2), while Na advanced to second base and als ran towards third base.
Yang then threw the ball to short stop Jae-ho Kim.
Instead of completing the rundown, short stop Kim first tagged out the approaching Na then threw the ball to catcher Yang, who just missed tagging out runner Kim.
The moment of tagging the Na at third base took a few seconds, but was just enough for runner Kim to slide into home plate safely and scored what would be the lone run in the game.
