Amsterdam-outfielder Gilmer Lampe to play in Italy next season

AMSTERDAM (Neth.) / BOLOGNA (Italy) -
Outfielder Gilmer Lampe of L&D Amsterdam Pirates will play in Italy next season, as he has joined the team of UnipolSai Fortitudo Bologna.
The announcement was made by both clubs on Friday (November 24).
The outfielder remains eligible to play for Amsterdam Pirates next year when he returns after completion of the Italian season.

With the departure of Gilmer Lampe, Amsterdam will miss one of its most productive hitters in the past two seasons.
Lampe came to Amsterdam Pirates after the 2015 season and played two years for the squad.
With Amsterdam, he won the European Champions Cup in 2016 and reached the Holland Series both years.
In his first season in Amsterdam, the 27-year old outfielder batted .323 (41-for-127) with eleven doubles.
Lampe was the third-best hitter of the team, scored 22 runs and batted in 19, playing in 33 games.
He led the team with 13 stolen bases.
This year, Lampe was the second-best hitter of the Amsterdam-squad, closing the season with a .374 batting average (43-for-115), which was the third-best in the league.
He recorded 12 doubles (team-high) and hit five homeruns, scored 34 runs and batted in 29.
Lampe led Amsterdam with a .609 slugging average and a .493 on-base percentage.
With these averages, he led the league in slugging and was second in on-base percentage.
With his five homeruns, he shared the team-lead with Danny Rombley.
He also led the team again in stolen bases, this time sharing the lead with Remco Draijer with eight.
Lampe was second-best in the team with his 34 runs scored and 28 walks and was third-best with his RBI's.
With all these productive stats, Lampe was one of the three nominees for the Most Valuable Player Award, which went to teammate Danny Rombley.
Last year, Lampe played in nine games for the Netherlands National Team/Kingdom Team, with whom he participated in the Haarlem Baseball Week, the France International Baseball Tournament and the Samurai Games in Japan.
Before coming to Amsterdam, Lampe played for UVV.
There, he was the team's leading hitter in 2014 and 2015 with a .355 (50-for-141) and .273 (44-for-161) average respectively.
In 2014, he also led the team in runs scored (29), basehits (50) and stolen bases (11).
In 2015, he led both UVV and the league with 20 stolen bases.
Fortitudo Bologna lost the Final of the European Champions Cup in Regensburg (Germany) early June to Curaçao Neptunus.
In the Italian Baseball League, the team qualified for the Play-Offs, but then was eliminated by Pirati dei Rimini, which won the best-of-five, 3-2.
In the following Italian Series, Rimini swept T&A San Marino to win the Italian Championship-title.
Recently, Bologna saw veteran player Alex Sambucci transfer to Parma Angels.
Before making his debut in the Dutch big league, Lampe played professionally or five seasons in the organization of the Seattle Mariners.
He played all his five seasons at the Rookie League-level.
In his first four professional seasons (2008-2011), Lampe played for the Mariners-team in the Venezuelan Summer League.
In 2012, Lampe played in the Appalachian League, appearing in 52 games for Pulaski Mariners.
In his five professional seasons, Lampe played in 226 games and batted .252.
In a statement, the Board of Amsterdam Pirates thanks Gilmer Lampe for his efforts and contriutions the past two seasons and wishes him lost of success and a fantastic year in Italy.
