Brothers begins Taiwan Series with win

TAOYUAN (Taiwan) -
Chinatrust Brothers opened the best-of-seven Taiwan Series on Saturday (October 28) with an 8-5 win against Lamigo Monkeys.
Game Two will be played on Sunday.
While this was the first game of the Series, the Championship Final is tied at 1-1.
As winner of both the first and second half of the regular season, Lamigo Monkeys opened the Taiwan Series with an one-win advantage.
At Taoyuan Baseball Stadium, the home of regular season-winner Lamigo Monkeys, Brothers-starter Bryan Woodall threw seven strong innings, giving up two runs and struckout four hitters.
But he gave up the first run in the game in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Hung-yu Lin.
Brothers reacted with three runs in the top of the second at bat off of starter Zeke Spruill.
The team took the lead on a 2-run double by Tzu-hao Chen.
A single by Chiang-ho Chen then made it a 3-1 score.
Monkeys narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the third inning, but from the sixth inning on, Brothers took more distance and lead 8-2 halfway the ninth inning.
One run was added in the sixth on a single by Cheng-min Peng.
The 39-year old veteran first baseman was 2-for-4.
In the next three innings, four more runs were scored off of five relievers.
The home team then rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but ended up empty-handed.
The three runs were all scored on a double by Yin-lun Lan, who was 3-for-5, all doubles.
The game was attended by 19,489 spectators, which set a record for a game in the Taiwan Series.
