HOUSTON, Texas (USA) - Kenley Jansen, the closer of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been named Reliever of the Year in the National League for the second year in a row. Both winners were announced during a news conference at Minute Maid Park before Game 4 of the World Series in Houston, where the Houston Astros hosts the Los Angeles Dodgers. The awards were then presented shortly before the game by Major League Commissioner Rob Manfred and Doug Elliot, President of The Hartford, which sponsors the Award. Jansen became the first reliever to win the Award two years in a row.

This season, Jansen was 5-0 with 41 saves and an 1.32 ERA for the Dodgers and struckout 109 hitters in 65 games. In 42 of them, he entered the game in a save-opportunity and earned 41. With that, he realized his third season with 40 or more saves. In 2014, he earned 44 saves, then in 2016, he was credited with 47 saves.

Jansen's big league-career began in 2010 and since then, he played for the Dodgers. The righthander appeared in 474 games and earned 230 saves to become the all-time leader in this category with the Dodgers. Eric Gagné is the only other Dodger-closer with three 40-plus save seasons. Jansen led all regular relievers this season with his 1.32 ERA and shared second place with his 41 saves.

Kimbrel became the first pitcher to win the award in both leagues. In 2014, he was the best reliever in the National League when he played for Atlanta Braves.

Kimbrel shared first place amongst relievers with 126 strikeouts. Kimbrel earned 35 saves and he led the American League with his 1.43 ERA.
