Nederlands

SEOUL (South Korea) - KIA Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Korean Series by winning Game 3 on Saturday-afternoon (October 28) against Doosan Bears with a 6-3 score. Reigning champion Doosan Bears had won the opener on Wednesday with a 5-3 score. In that game, Dutch outfielder Roger Bernadina hit a 3-run homerun for Tigers. On Thursday, Tigers evened the Series by winning only 1-0. In that game, a sacrifice bunt from Bernadina brought a runner to third base, who then went on to score the lone run.

The Series is now in South Korean capital Seoul, where the games are played in historic Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which also will be the site for Game 4 on Sunday and Game 5 on Monday. Jamsil Stadium had been the site of several international events, including the 1982 World Championship.

Tigers led 3-0 halfway the fourth inning, then Bears got one run back. Trailing 4-1 in the seventh inning, Bears narrowed the deficit to only 4-3, but Tigers then added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

Tigers opened the score with two outs in the third inning on a double by Myung-ki Lee.

The team added two runs in the fourth. Bears-starter Michael Bowden then walked two batters and committed a balk. Both runners scored when Chi-hong An followed with a single to make it a 3-0 score.

Lefthander Pat Dean held Bears scoreless in the first three innings, but then scored a run in the fourth. Jae-hwan Kim led off with a double, moved on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eui-ji Yang.

Tigers got the run back in the top of the fifth. Myung-ki Lee led off with his second double, which led to a pitching change. After having advanced to third base on a sacrifice bunt, Lee scored on a single by Roger Bernadina.

The home team closed in by scoring a run in the seventh and eighth inning. In the seventh, Nick Evans homered. In the eighth, Pat Dean was relieved with two runners on base, then Bears scored a run on a single by Jae-hwan Kim to make it a 4-3 score. With runners on first and third base, the Bears failed to add more runs when a pop-fly and flyout ended the at bat.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Tigers took some more distance when pinch-hitter Ji-wan Na hit a 2-run homerun.
