Neptunus records big win in comeback-game of Yntema
Nederlands

VLEUTEN (Neth.) - Curaçao Neptunus recorded another big win against Pickles UVV on Saturday-afternoon (July 29), winning 15-1 in a game that was halted because of the weather conditions in the top of the sixth inning.

It was a cloudy day in Vleuten, there was a long rain-delay in the third inning, Neptunus rallied for eleven runs in that same at bat and the game wasn't completed, as it was halted in the sixth inning as the field had become unplayable due to rain.

But whatever the conditions today and whatever the score, the best sight on the field in Vleuten was Orlando Yntema taking the mound for Neptunus. It was not expected that the righthander was to pitch this season, due to health problems in March and April. But today, Yntema made his comeback and threw one inning for his team.
Orlando, welcome back! Good to see you on the field again!

With two outs (!) in the top of the third inning and Neptunus leading 3-1, the game was interrupted by rain. When the game resumed after 43 minutes, Neptunus rallied for ten more runs to increase the lead to 13-1.

With Neptunus leading 15-1 in the top of the sixth, the bases loaded and two outs, it started to rain again. The umpires stepped halted the game definitively. All statistics of this abbreviated at bat remain valid and will count for the season-stats.

With the win, Neptunus narrowed the gap somewhat with league-leader L&D Amsterdam Pirates, which today lost 3-2 at Hoofddorp Pioniers. However, Amsterdam is stil only one win away from finishing in first place. After today's game, Neptunus did move into first place in the category of 'runs scored'. The team now leads the league with 244, while Amsterdam follows with 241. Amsterdam remains the lone team to have given less than 100 runs, as it has given up only 76.

Neptunus opened the series on Thursday-evening with a 12-2 win in seven innings. The series closes on Sunday in Rotterdam.

(July 29)

Complete schedule

In the top of the first inning, Neptunus opened the score with two runs off of starter Jurjen van Zijl. Lead-off hitter Stijn van der Meer reached on an error, then scored on a following double by Benjamin Dille. He moved to third base on a grounder by Gianison Boekhoudt. Moments later, Dille scored on a single by Dwayne Kemp, who was caught stealing shortly thereafter.

In the bottom of the first inning, Orlando Yntema took the mound for his first inning of the season. He walked lead-off hitter Rick Kuipers, then gave up a single to Tijmen Takke. Hereafter, he recorded his first strikeout, got a flyout and the inning ended with a force play-grounder. Yntema threw 20 pitches in his comeback and that was to be all for today. Elton Koeiman took over in the second inning.

Koeiman gave up UVV's lone run in the second inning. Julian Rip led off with a double, moved on a grounder by Jelle Blaauw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Bazuin. Koeiman retired the side in the next three innings.

In the top of the third inning, Stijn van der Meer doubled with one out and Gianison Boekhoudt walked with two outs. Dwayne Kemp then delivered a runscoring single that made it a 3-1 score and brought Boekhoudt to second base. The umpiring crew then interrupted the game due to rain. After the rain had stopped and the field had been prepared again, then game resumed after 43 minutes. Jurjen van Zijl returned to the mound and needed only one more out to end the at bat. Instead, Neptunus rallied for ten more runs!

Van Zijl first got the bases loaded when he walked Christian Diaz. The righthander then gave up runscoring singles to Daniel Fernandes and Ruar Verkerk, followed by a baseclearing, 3-run triple by Shaldimar Daantji. The veteran outfielder then scored himself when next batter Stijn van der Meer reached on an error. Benjamin Dille then singled and three more runs were added when Gianison Boekhoudt hit his seventh homerun of the season. It was the third consecutive game in which Boekhoudt homered. With the score now at 13-1, Dwayne Kemp doubled, but he was left behind when a flyout finally ended the long, rain-interrupted, at bat.

Neptunus added another run in the fourth inning off of reliever Roland Laurens. He gave up a lead-off triple to Daniel Fernandes, who then scored on a single by Ruar Verkerk.

In the fifth, Neptunus lifted the lead to 15-1. This time, it was Benjamin Dille, who hit a triple (with one out). He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dwayne Kemp.

In the top of the sixth, Neptunus appeared to add another run, as it got the bases loaded. With one out, Jochem Koedijk singled. Hereafter, Jonah Van Bemmelen took over the UVV-pitching. With two outs, he got the bases loaded when he gave up a single to Stijn van der Meer and walked Benjamin Dille. Moments later, it started to rain again and thas was the signal for the umpires to stop the game definitively. The conditions of the field already had become worse during the first delay and it would become only more unplayable with the new rain. All statistics of this abbreviated at bat will remain valid and will count in the season-records.

Neptunus collected 17 basehits, including three by Benjamin Dille and Dwayne Kemp. All nine starting players had at least one basehit and scored at least one run.
