HCAW closes regular season with shutout against Twins
Nederlands
OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) -
HCAW became the first team to close its regular season on Sunday (July 30) and the Bussum-squad did it with a 4-0 shutout-win against De Glaskoning Twins to complete a 3-game sweep.
HCAW won 3-1 in the opener on Thursday, then won 2-0 on Saturday.
With the win, HCAW will finish the season in third place, as Hoofddorp Pioniers today lost 7-5 to league-leader L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
Pioniers can still end up in a tie for third place with HCAW.
To do so, it has to win its last three games in the upcoming series against Twins.
However, the head-to-head results are in favor of HCAW, which won three of the six games played, while one game ended in a tie.
That tie now has become decisive and is the result of the curfew-rule.
On Thursday-evening, June 1, the game in Bussum had an one hour, 12 minutes sun-delay after four complete innings with the score at 0-0.
HCAW then took an 1-0 lead in the fifth, but Pioniers came alongside in the seventh.
With the score at 1-1, the game was then halted after eight complete innings, due to the 10:30 PM curfew-rule!
The lone decision remaining in the regular season is sixth and seventh place.
Pickles UVV, which is in sixth place, closes its season against Amsterdam.
As mentioned, Twins, which is in seventh place, closes against Pioniers.
UVV is ahead two points (one game).
On August 17, HCAW will play its first series in the Championship Pool against Curaçao Neptunus, which finished in second place because of the Amsterdam-win today
It will mark the first time since 2005 that HCAW will play again in the Play-Offs (or Championship Pool).
Starting on August 19, Twins will play in the Promotion/Relegation Pool with DSS, UVV and the three best teams from the second highest league ('Overgangsklasse').
Less than a week ago, it appeared that Storks, Quick Amersfoort and Onze Gezellen were to be those three teams.
Four of the six teams will play at the highest level next season.
However, a few days ago, a game of RCH-Pinguïns against Neptunus Tridents was re-scheduled, due to an ineligible player used by Tridents in a game that was won against the Heemstede-squad.
In the published final standings, RCH-Pinguïns finished in fourth place, two points (one game) behind Quick Amersfoort and Onze Gezellen.
The game is re-scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 and will be played in Heemstede.
When RCH-Pinguïns wins, it will create a 3-way tie with Quick Amersfoort and Onze Gezellen.
The head-to-head results then will be in favor of Quick Amersfoort and RCH-Pinguïns, unless there is another ruling when three teams are tied.
