Monkeys record huge win to take 3-1 lead in Taiwan Series
Nederlands

TAICHUNG (Taiwan) - Lamigo Monkeys recorded another huge win on Tuesday (October 31) in Game 3 of the best-of-seven Taiwan Series against Chinatrust Brothers. After winning with a big 14-5 score in the second game on Sunday, the Monkeys now won 19-3 to take a 3-1 lead. The team needs one win to capture the title.

Lamigo Monkeys began the Series with an one-win advantage for winning both the first and second half of the regular season. Brothers won 8-5 in the opener on Saturday, despite missing five veteran players. They were suspended for alleged misconduct off the field.

Game Four will be played on Thursday-evening in Taichung.

At Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, the visiting Monkeys rallied for five runs in the top of the first inning off of starter Chen-yu Hung. The rally was highlighted by a basesloaded, 2-run single by Chun-hsiu Chen and a 3-run homerun by Cheng-fei Lin. The latter batted in eight runs in tonight's game, setting a new record. He also batted in a run in the fourth inning via a sacrifice fly, then added a 2-run double in both the eighth and ninth inning. Lin was 3-for-5 and scored twice.

Brothers got one run back in the bottom of the first inning, but the Monkeys scored four more runs in the third and three more in the fouth to increase the lead to 12-1. The visitors completed their run-production by scoring three in the eighth and four in the ninth at bat. The Monkeys collected 21 basehits, while the Brothers registered only six.

Lamigo-starter Zack Segovia threw eight solid innings, striking out three hitters and giving up six basehits, only two of them in the first six innings. In the regular season, the American righthander was 16-5. With his sixteen wins, Segovia shared first place in the league with Mike Loree of Fubon Guardians. The 34-year old Segovia is in his second season with the Monkeys. He briefly pitched in the Major League for Philadephia Phillies (one game, 2007) and Washington Nationals (eight games, 2009). In 2015, he pitched for Team USA in the first edition of the Premier12 in Taiwan and Japan, winning the Silver Medal. During the Premier12, Segovia was the starting and winning pitcher against the Netherlands. He then struckout three hitters and gave up three hits and one run in five innings. The USA won 6-1 to eliminate the Orange-squad for the medal round.

The 19 runs scored by the Monkeys set a new record for a game in the Taiwan Series. The previous record was 15 in 1996.
