Monkeys re-takes lead in Taiwan Series

TAINAN (Taiwan) - Lamigo Monkeys re-took the lead in the Taiwan Series on Thursday (November 1) by winning 11-2 against Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions. With the win, the reigning champion leads 3-2 and needs one victory to be the champion again. Game 5 will be played on Saturday in Taoyuan.

As winner of the regular season, the Monkeys began the Taiwan Series with an one-game win advantage. In the opening game of the Series on Saturday, Monkeys recorded a comfortable 15-6 victory to take a 2-0 lead. The following day, Uni-Lions won 4-2.

On Tuesday, the Uni-Lions evened the best-of-seven Series by winning 10-4 to even the Final at 2-2.

The Monkeys took an early lead in the first inning off of American pitcher Ryan Verdugo when Chun-Hsiu Chen hit a 2-run homerun. But the Uni-Lions answered with two runs of its own off of lefthander Yi-Cheng Wang in the bottom of the first.

Wang recovered after the first inning and held the Lions scoreless through the seventh inning. He struckout ten batters and walked none.

The Monkeys re-took the lead by scoring a run in the third inning and added another one in the fourth, which led to a pitching change.

In the fifth inning, the Monkeys rallied for four runs to take a comfortable lead. Cheng-Fai Lin and pinch-hitter Chien-Fu Liao contributed with runscoring singles.

Yin-Lun Lan and Hung-Yu Lin both recorded four basehits for the Monkeys.
