Nederlands

NIEUWEGEIN (Neth.) - The roster of the Netherlands Baseball Team for the upcoming Baseball Week Haarlem was announced on Wednesday (July 4). Manager Evert-Jan 't Hoen named 24 players to the roster, including two rookies.

For 't Hoen, this will be his debut as Manager of the National Team. On April 30, he was named to lead the Orange-squad as the successor of Steve Janssen. He had stepped down in January after being named Minor League Pitching Coach in the organization of the Chicago Cubs.

For the Netherlands Team, this will be its first event of the year. In September, the team participates in the Super6, which will be played in Hoofddorp (Netherlands).

The 29th edition of the bi-annual international tournament in Haarlem (Netherlands) opens on Friday, July 13. The Final will be played on Sunday, July 22. Joining the Netherlands in this years event are national teams of Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Germany, Italy and Japan.

Most players on the roster are veterans, but two will make their National Team-debut. They are pitcher Misja Harcksen (De Glaskoning Twins) and outfielder Denzel Richardson (DSS). Last year, Richardson participated in the World Port Tournament in Rotterdam with the team of Curaçao.

Three of the selected players made their debut in the National Team last year. Catcher Max Clarijs (L&D Amsterdam Pirates) and outfielder Rachid Engelhardt (Quick Amersfoort) then played for the Orange-squad during the World Port Tournament. Catcher Rodney Daal (L&D Amsterdam Pirates) made his debut during the European Baseball Series later in the year.

Making his comeback in the team is infielder Roelie Henrique (HCAW). He last played for the National Team in 2013 during the World Port Tournament.

Four players play abroad. Pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek plays in the German Bundesliga for Buchbinder Regensburg Legionäre, while pitcher Kevin Kelly and outfielder Gilmer Lampe play in the Italian Baseball League. Kelly plays for Pirati dei Rimini, Lampe plays for UnipolSai Fortitudo Bologna. Infielder Yurendell De Caster plays for Wild Cats on Curaçao.

15 of the 24 selected players play for the two leading teams in the Dutch big league. Seven players play for current league-leader L&D Amsterdam Pirates, while eight play for reigning champion Curaçao Neptunus. The five remaining players play for DSS, HCAW, MeerLease Pioniers, Quick Amersfoort and De Glaskoning Twins. Seven of the eight big league-teams are represented in the National Team.
