HOOFDDORP -
Finally, it was Spring!
Finally, the weather conditions were great to be at the ballpark and play a game.
Today's temperate varied from 19 degrees Celsius (66.2 Fahrenheit) and 23 (73.4) with an average temperature of 20 degrees (68) in the afternoon.
And so, all scheduled exhibition games were played and the teams were able to get into action under very comfortable and warm conditions.
On Saturday (April 7), in Hoofddorp, DSS opened the score in the first inning against Hoofddorp Pioniers.
The home team was able to come alongside in the second inning, but DSS re-took the lead in the top of the third.
From that moment on, the Haarlem-squad hold onto the lead and won 9-7 in a 9-inning game.
In the first inning, DSS took an 1-0 lead off of starter Lars Huijer when Omar Williams homered off of starter Lars Huijer.
After Pioniers had come alongside in the bottom of the second inning, DSS scored again in the third, then added two more runs in the fourth off of reliever Ryan Oduber (who threw three innings).
With a 4-1 lead, Reggie Bomberg, who was credited with a Hold, took over the pitching for DSS, relieving starter Tom Stuifbergen.
He threw the next two innings and gave Hoofddorp's second run in the fifth, which was scored on a homerun by Ibrahim Redan.
DSS enlarged its lead in the top of the sixth inning with a 4-run rally off of Oduber.
Trailing 8-2, Pioniers narrowed the deficit to 8-7 by scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off Tim Halderman, who had come on in the sixth.
DSS-centerfielder Denzel Richardson appeared to catch a hard hit ball, but lost control when his glove made contact with the ground.
Two infield-hits and some errors followed, while Ibrahim Redan added a runscoring double, resulting in the scoring of the five runs.
After being held scoreless by rookie Andrew Wanapa in the seventh, DSS scored an insurance run in the top of the eighth off of Gilian van Lith to make it a 9-7 score.
Robyn Clara held Pioniers scoreless in its last two at bats and earned a Save.
