Bears wins to even Korean Series again
Nederlands

INCHEON (South Korea) - After Game 4 rained out on Thursday, Doosan Bears won 2-1 on Friday-evening (November 9) against SK Wyverns to even the best-of-seven Korean Series again at 2-2. Game 5 will be played on Saturday.

Wyverns opened the Series on Sunday in Seoul with a 7-3 victory. Bears then also won with a 7-3 score on Monday to even the Championship Final for the first time.

The Series then moved to Incheon, where Wyverns won at home on Wednesday with a 7-2 score to re-take the lead.

On Friday, at Incheon SK Happy Dream Park, Wyverns opened the score in the bottom of the third inning off of American righthander Josh Lindblom. Sung-Hyun Kim led off with a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt. He then scored from second base on a single by veteran Kang-Min Kim. The 36-year old outfielder already plays for Wyverns since 2001. For the home-team, this was to be its lone run, despite getting the bases loaded after Kim's single. First, Dong-Min Han walked and then Lindblom hit Jeong Choi with a pitch. But the American recovered and closed by striking out Canadian Jamie Romak.

Despite giving up the run in the troubled third inning, Lindblom otherwise dominated for seven innings and struckout ten batters to become the winning pitcher. Earlier this week, Lindblom was named Best Pitcher of the 2018 season.

Bears was held scoreless in seven innings. The team reached base in five of the six innings off of starter Kwang-Hyun Kim, but was unable to score.

Bears then struck with two runs in the top of the eighth off of reliever Ángel Luis Sánchez. The Dominican righthander gave up a lead-off single to Min-Gi Baek. With one out, he scored on a homerun by Soo-Bin Jung, who plays for the Bears since 2009. In 2008, Jung was a member of the National Junior Team of South Korea, which then won the title at the World Junior Championship in Canada. With the South Korean National Team, Jung participated in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup in Taiwan, where the Netherlands reached the Final, but then lost to Cuba.
