Nederlands

CHINANDEGA (Nicaragua) - Tigres de Chinandega nipped Indios del Bóer 3-2 on Wednesday (January 10) in Game 3 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Semi-Final of the professional Nicaraguan league. Tigres opened the Play-Off on Sunday with an 8-2 victory, then Indios won the second game on Monday with a 3-2 score in eleven innings.

The winner of the series becomes the second finalist to reach the Championship Final and will face Gigantes de Rivas. The fourth game of the Play-Off will be played on Thursday.

Netherlands Team-player Curt Smith was 0-for-4 tonight for Tigres. He struckout twice and also grounded into a double play.

At Estadio Efraín Tijerino in Chinandega, Bóer opened the score in the top of the second inning when Carlos Triunfel led off with a homerun off of starting pitcher Wilton López.

Tigres came alongside in the bottom of the second at bat off of starter Fidencio Flores. Edgard Montiel led off with a walk, advanced on an one-out single by Leonardo Ortiz and scored the tying run when next hitter Norlando Valle also singled.

After Bóer had left a runner behind on third base in the top of the third inning, Tigres took a 2-1 lead in its third at bat. Jamar Walton led off with a single and moved on a passed ball with one out. Curt Smith then flied out, but Edgard Montiel followed with a runscoring doule.

The home team added another run in the fourth inning when Yosmany Guerra homered with two outs.

Tigres gave up Bóer's second run in the seventh inning. With two outs, Renato Morales singled, which led to a pitching change. José D. Rugama took over from Wilton López, but he hit Janior Montes with a pitch, then gave up an RBI-single to pinch-hitter Iván Hernández that made it a 3-2 score. With runners on first and second base, another pitching change followed. Junior Téllez was brought in and he retired the next hitter to end the inning. Hereafter, Tigres hold onto the small lead.

In the top of the ninth inning, Bóer came close to tying the score off of reliever Wilber Bucardo. With one out, Indios got runners on second and third base after a double and two errors. But two flyouts then ended the game.
