Kevin Heijstek went the distance for Amsterdam Pirates and had a great outing.
The righthander struckout three hitters, walked none and gave up only three basehits.
He needed only 94 pitches to complete his nine innings.
On the other side, Quick-starter Brian van Laar threw 80 pitches in the first three innings alone.
Hereafter, Quick's Head Coach Marco Wels inserted a new pitcher each next inning.
With that, seven different pitchers threw today for the team from Amersfoort.
In the top of the first inning, Amsterdam Pirates got runners on first and second base, but Van Laar then closed with a strikeout.
The visitors then scored three runs in the next at bat.
Linoy Croes led off with a single.
He then appeared to be caught stealing after a pick-off, but arrived safely at second base on an error.
With one out, Niels van Weert (who last season played for Quick Amersfoort) walked and Max Clarijs followed with a runscoring single to open the score.
The next run was added on a double by Remco Draijer.
With runners on second and third base, the bases got loaded when Zerzinho Croes was awarded first base on catcher's interference.
Hereafter, Nick Urbanus delivered an RBI-single.
That brought in Clarijs, but Draijer was eliminated at the plate when he also tried to score.
Pirates rallied for four more runs in the third inning to raise the lead to 7-0.
With one out, Linoy Croes singled and Rashid Gerard walked.
Niels van Weert then followed with a runscoring single and next hitter Max Clarijs added a 2-run triple.
Moments later, Clarijs scored on an infield-hit by Remco Draijer.
Amsterdam Pirates kept on scoring and added runs again in the fourth and fifth inning.
With two outs in the fourth, Linoy Croes homered off of new pitcher Jurjen van Zijl.
The ninth run was scored in the fifth off of Van Zijl's successor Aaron Isenia.
He gave up an one-out double to Max Clarijs, who went on to score on a 2-out single by Zerzinho Croes.
In the next four innings, Amsterdam also reached the bases, but was unable to lift the lead to a mercy-rule difference of ten runs.
The team left three runners behind in both the seventh and eighth inning.

After new pitcher Jasper Popken was supported with a double play in the sixth, Quick's fifth pitcher Mark Kolner, got the bases loaded with two outs.
He gave up singles with one out to Max Clarijs and Remco Draijer.
With two outs, Nick Urbanus reached on an infield-hit, then Kolner closed with a strikeout.
In the eighth, it was Mees Cremer, who got the bases loaded.
He gave up a lead-off single to Rodney Daal, then another one with one out to Rashid Gerard.
An error on a grounder by Niels van Weert loaded the bases.
Cremer, who made his big league-debut, followed with a strikeout, then a grounder ended the bat.
With that, the bases were loaded for the second consecutive inning.
In the ninth, T'Shawn James, who also made his debut, gave up a 2-out single to Kenny Berkenbosch, but he was forced out.
Quick Amersfoort got into scoring position only one time off of Kevin Heijstek, who threw a strong game.
That was done in the second inning after the team had been retired in order in the first at bat.
In the second, Bryan Engelhardt led off with a single, then Jules Cremer singled with two outs, but they stranded on first and second base.
In the remainder of the game, Heijstek would give up only one more basehit and got only two more baserunners.
Heijstek gave up his third and last basehit with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Wesley Bernardus then singled, but two flyouts followed.
After giving up the single to Bernardus, Heijstek retired 20 of the next 21 hitters.
After having retired 16 consecutive hitters, Heijstek got his next baserunner with two outs in the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Kai Berkel reached on an error.
The righthander then retired the next four batters again to throw his first complete game of the season.
