Neptunus opened the score in the bottom of the first inning and it was done with a rare homerun by Benjamin Dille.
This was only the fourth homerun in the career of the Belgian second baseman, who made his debut in the Dutch big league in 2004 and today played in his 499th regular season-game.
Dille hit his last regular season-homerun on July 7, 2012 in an away-game against HCAW in Bussum.
Six years ago, Dille hit a 3-run homerun in the second inning off of American starter Kody Hightower.
Neptunus went on to win that game with a 24-3 score.
There were only three players from that game who also played in today's game.
Dwayne Kemp and Shaldimar Daantji then also played for Neptunus.
The third player was Sander Helmendach, who today was the starting pitcher for DSS and gave up Dille's homerun.
Six years ago, he pitched for HCAW and took over the pitching from Hightower.
In this 6-year span, Dille hit one other homerun, but that was done during the 2015 Holland Series.
Helmendach encountered no problems in the next two innings, then gave up another run in the fourth.
The righthander gave up a lead-off single to Dwayne Kemp, who moved on a grounder.
Neptunus got the bases loaded when Gianison Boekhoudt walked and everyone was safe on a fielder's choice-grounder by Shaldimar Daantji.
Kemp scored when Helmendach walked Quintin De Cuba, but three runners were left behind when two flyouts ended the at bat.
Neptunus doubled its lead with two outs in the fifth inning.
With one out, Benjamin Dille was hit by a pitch and he stole second base with two outs.
He then moved on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Dudley Leonora, who also stole second base moments later.
Leonora scored the next run on a single by Gianison Boekhoudt to make it a 4-0 score.
For the third time in the game, Neptunus doubled its lead, this time in the seventh.
After increasing an 1-0 lead to 2-0 in the fourth, then 4-0 in the fifth, the score was now lifted to 8-0.
Stijn van der Meer led off with a walk, as did Dwayne Kemp with one out.
A pitching change followed, as Robyn Clara took over from Sander Helmendach.
He got the bases loaded when he walked Dudley Leonora, then gave up a baseclearing, 3-run double to Gianison Boekhoudt.
He was the designated hitter again today.
Moments later, Boekhoudt scored when rookie Darryl Collins also doubled.
Neptunus scored its last run in the eighth at bat, which was unearned, as DSS committed two errors.
With one out, Stijn van der Meer reached on an error and later scored on another error with two outs.
DSS recorded only three basehits in seven innings off of Orlando Yntema, who struckout ten hitters.
The Haarlem-squad got into scoring position only twice.
With two outs in the second inning, Tommy van de Sanden singled, but stranded on first base.
In the fourth at bat, Tino van Erk reached on an error with one out, but also was left behind on first base.
DSS recorded its second basehit in the top of the sixth inning.
With two outs, Odion Gouverneur singled and became the first runner to get into scoring position when Tino van Erk walked, but Yntema closed with a strikeout.
In the seventh, Omar Williams led off for DSS with a double.
With one out, he moved to third base on a flyout, but Yntema again closed with a strikeout.
DSS got three more runners in the next two innings off of Riki Saito, but none of them came into scoring position.
With two outs in the eighth, Odion Gouverneur singled off the lefthanded Japanese pitcher, but didn't get beyond first base.
In the ninth, again with two outs, Tommy van de Sanden walked, but he was forced out on a grounder by Koen Halderman, which ended the game.
