VLEUTEN (Neth.) -
UVV and Head Coach Folkwin Lautenslager have separated after the first series of the new season in the second highest league ('Overgangsklasse').
The separation was announced by UVV on Friday (April 13).
Last weekend, UVV opened the 2018 season with two big losses against Euro Stars.
On Saturday, the team opened at home with a huge 25-4 loss.
The next day, UVV lost 13-4 at Capelle a/d IJssel.
Coming weekend, UVV meets Alcmaria Victrix.
Last year, UVV relegated from the highest division.
After completion of the season, most players left the team to play elsewhere.
UVV then compiled a team for this season with young players.
Folkwin Lautenslager became the new Head Coach of UVV in January.
He then succeeded Ritchie Daal, who had been the interim-Head Coach since taking over in June of last season from American Ty Eriksen.
During the prepartions for this season, some experienced players from outside the club were added to the team.
In a statement, UVV said that it was hoped to come to a right mix of the team: a coach who is used to work with young and talented players and a young team that gets the chance to gradually grow to a higher position.
That mix was found on paper, but didn't work practically.
,,The off-season practices were the ideal moments to built a cooperation, but unfortunately, it didn't work'', said Folkwin Lautenslager in the statement.
,,You're looking to new possibilities and tries them out.
It is a pitty that it didn't let to a healthy base to continue the cooperation.''
In the same statement, the club's Chairman Merijn van Elsäcker says: ,,We have looked to the level of our players and searched for a coach to fit with that.
But that doesn't say anything about the chemistry between a coach, his staff and players.''
That chemistry was insufficient and both Lautenslager and UVV realized that continuing would not be fruitful.
It was then decided that both parties would their cooperation effective immediately.
The team's coaching and supporting staff will now take over the functions of Lautenslager.
