Kalian Sams homers Québec to win in Game 2 CanAm-Final

QUÉBEC CITY (Ville de Québec), Québec (Canada) - Les Capitales de Québec won Game 2 of the best-of-five Championship Series of the CanAmLeague against Sussex County Miners on Thursday-evening (September 13) with a 4-3 score to equal the Final at 1-1. The difference in the score was a homerun by Dutch outfielder Kalian Sams.

On Wednesday-evening, Québec lost the opener, 7-3. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but then rained out.

Sussex County opened the score with two runs in the top of the first inning, but then was held scoreless until the ninth inning. In the bottom of the first, Québec got one run back when Cuban Yordan Manduley singled, stole second base and scored on an error.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Canadian squad took over the lead. Maxx Tissenbaum led off with a single and TJ White followed with a walk. After advancing on a sacrifice bunt, the bases got loaded when Brad Antchak walked. David Salgueiro followed with a 2-run double to make in 3-2 in favor of Québec.

In the third inning, Kalian Sams led off with a homerun to make it a 4-2 score and add an insurance run.

That run proved to be the difference. Québec was held scoreless in the remainder of the game, while Sussex County narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the ninth. In that at bat, Trevor Bayless took over the pitching from starter Jay Johnson, who had thrown eight solid innings, striking out seven batters and giving up only five hits. With one out, Bayless gave up a single to Daniel Mateo and a double to Martin Figueroa With runners on second and third base, a grounder by Luis Alen brought in Mateo. But the inning and the game ended when Bayless closed with a strikeout.

The Series now moves to the site of Sussex County Miners, where Game 3 will be played on Friday in Augusta, New Jersey (USA).
