Nine of ten exhibition-games coming weekend cancelled
Nederlands

AMSTERDAM / THE HAGUE / OOSTERHOUT / ROTTERDAM / BUSSUM / AMERSFOORT / HAARLEM / HOOFDDORP (Neth.) - Coming weekend, there were ten exhibition games scheduled, five on Saturday, five on Sunday. All eight Dutch big league-teams were to come into action.

However, nine of these games already have been cancelled due to the expected weather conditions. On Thursday and Friday (March 15-16), it was predicted that some light snow-showers (!) would travel from the north to the south of the country starting on Friday-evening. In the upcoming night, there will be freezing conditions. On Friday-evening around 9 PM, the wind chill was -5 degrees Celsius (23 F).

On Saturday, there will be some snow in the south and there will be some sunshine in the rest of the country. But the temperatures are around zero degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit). However, because of a strong wind from the east, it feels much colder. The wind chill can vary between -8 and -14 degrees Celsius (17.6 and 6.8 F).

On Sunday, there will be some more sun, but it remains very cold for this time of the year.

Because of the weather predictions and the fact that six of the eight teams have not played yet, nine games were cancelled on Thursday and Friday.

Curaçao Neptunus was to play two games against De Glaskoning Twins, Saturday in Oosterhout, Sunday in Rotterdam.

HCAW had two games scheduled against Quick Amersfoort, Saturday in Bussum, Sunday in Amersfoort.

DSS was to play two home games at home in Haarlem against RCH-Pinguïns, which plays in the second highest league ('Overgangsklasse').

L&D Amsterdam Pirates was to travel to The Hague on Saturday to play against Silicon Storks. The game in Amsterdam on Sunday, already had been scratched, due to construction work on the home site of Pirates.

Hoofddorp Pioniers was to play on Saturday against its second team Omron Pioniers, which plays in the 'Overgangsklasse', but that game also was cancelled. On Friday-evening, the second game between these two teams, scheduled to be played on Sunday at 12 PM was not yet cancelled. However, as it will be a cold Sunday, this game also might be cancelled in the weekend.

From Monday on, better wearther is expected.

So far, only one exhibition game has been played. Last weekend, Storks won 8-6 against Neptunus. Including coming weekend's games, 16 exhibition games have been cancelled due to the weather conditions.

In the weekend of March 24-25, more games are scheduled. Also scheduled in that weekend is the 30th edition of the annual Jan van de Vegte Memorial Tournament in Nijmegen. Coming week, Neptunus will travel to the Czech Republic where it will play two games against Draci Brno. The regular season in the big league opens on Thursday, April 26. But the season in the second highest league already opens on Friday, April 6!
