Game 1 - HCAW vs. L&D Amsterdam Pirates
HCAW got its first runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first inning off of Amsterdam-starter Kevin Heijstek.
With one out, Delano Selassa doubled, but he stranded on second base.
The home-team then opened the score with two runs in the next at bat.
With one out, Kevin Weijgertse singled and (former Pirate) Patrick Bok walked.
With two outs, Roland Laurens delivered a runscoring single and advanced on an outfield-error.
Bok moved to third base on the basehit and scored the second run on the error.
Amsterdam faced righthander Dennis Burgersdijk, who last season was a member of its own pitching-staff.
He retired the first five batters he faced (two strikeouts), but gave up a run in the third at bat.
With one out, Max Clarijs singled and moved to second base on an outfield-error, then reached third base on a wild pitch.
Moments later, he scored on a grounder by Mickey De La Cruz Santana.
Amsterdam Pirates came alongside in the fourth inning.
Kenny Berkenbosch led off with a walk.
With one out, he stole second base, then advanced on a throwing error and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, HCAW immediately responded with a 3-run rally to re-take the lead.
The bases got loaded when Kevin Weijgertse, Patrick Bok and Julian Goins (bunt) all singled.
With one out, the talented Jeandro Tromp connected for a single to make it 3-2 score.
As a throwing error from the outfield followed, another runner was able to score.
With two outs, Roelie Henrique added another runscoring single to lift the lead to 5-2.
Amsterdam narrowed the deficit to 5-3 by scoring a run in the top of the fifth.
Niels van Weert led off with a single and got into scoring position when a throwing error followed after next hitter Max Clarijs flied out trying to complete a double play.
Van Weert scored on a pinch-hit single by Remco Draijer.
Moments later, Draijer stole second base, but was left behind.
Two former HCAW-pitchers completed the game for Amsterdam.
Righthander Maickel Rietel retired the side (two strikeouts) in the fifth and lefthander Jim Ploeger did the same in the sixth.
Amsterdam left a runner behind on second base in the top of the sixth off of former Pirates-pitcher Oscar Meuris.
He walked lead-off hitter Kenny Berkenbosch, but struckout the next two hitters.
Berkenbosch then stole second base, but stranded there.
