DSS nips Quick Amersfoort in exhibition-opener Nederlands

  HAARLEM (Neth.) -
After weeks with cold, snow and freezing conditions, all eight Dutch big league-teams finally were able to play an exhibition game on Saturday (March 24).
The weather conditions were very acceptable, at some sites still a little chilly, but on other locations very comfortable.

DSS opened its exhibition-season with an 1-0 win against Quick Amersfoort in a game that lasted seven innings.

The lone run in today's game was scored in the sixth inning.
Koen Werkman then hit a triple off of reliever Aaron Isenia and scored on a sacrifice fly by Odion Gouverneur.
Quick Amersfoort was limited to only one basehit by the four DSS-pitchers.
It was veteran Bryan Engelhardt, who accounted for the lone basehit, which was an infield-hit.
Jerry Breek and Marco Wels, the Head Coaches of respectively DSS and Quick Amersfoort, both enjoyed being back on the field.
,,This was what you can expect of a first game after not being able to play due to the cold'', stated Wels.
,,I expect that both teams will improve on their hitting in the upcoming weeks.''
Breek added: ,,Not much happened today, but it was a good feeling to play again.
We did what we had to do.''
