SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS (Dominican Republic) -
The fourth game of the best-of-seven Final of the Liga de Béisbol Profesional de la República Dominicana in the Dominican Republic was halted by rain on Friday-evening (January 26) in the fourth inning.
The game now will be played on Saturday.
The seven games are switching back and forth between the two playing sites and were scheduled for a 7-day period.
With the rain-out, an eighth day has now been added to the schedule.
As Friday's game also will be played at the site of Águilas on Saturday, it means that all following games moved ahead one day.
Reigning champion Tigres del Licey, the team of Netherlands Team-pitcher Jair Jurrjens, trails 2-1 against Águilas Cibaeñas in the Championship Final.
Águilas opened the series on Tuesday with an 8-1 score, then won Game 2 on Wednesday with an 8-4 score.
On Thursday, Licey forced at least a fifth game by winning the third game of the Finale with a 4-3 score at home in ten innings.
On Friday, the fourth game already started 45 minutes later than scheduled due to weather conditions.
In the third inning, Águilas took an 1-0 lead when Christian Bethancourt homered.
Águilas-starter Richelson Peña retired all 12 batters he faced, but after completion of the top of the fourth inning, it started to rain heavily.
That resulted in a rain-delay.
After a waiting period of 2 1/2 hours and a lot of work by the ground-crew, it still rained.
Vitelio Mejia, the President of the Dominican Baseball League, discussed the situation with representatives of both teams and Umpiring Crew Chief Domingo Polanco, which resulted in the postponement of the game.
