Nederlands

REGENSBURG / HEIDENHEIM AN DER BRENZ (Germany) - Dutch righthanded pitcher Mike Bolsenbroek will wear a different uniform this season, as he left Buchbinder Regensburg Legionäre after having been with the club since 2008. On Thursday (January 3), Regensburg Legionäre announced that Bolsenbroek will play for Heidenheim Heideköpfe this year. On the other hand, the club also announced that righthanded pitcher Jan Tomek is coming back to Regensburg.

The 31-year old Mike Bolsenbroek, who briefly pitched in the Dutch big league in 2005 for HCAW, first joined Regensburg in 2008. That also was the year in which he made his professional debut, appearing in five games in the Rookie League-team of the Philadelphia Phillies. The 6-8 feet righthander also played in the Minor League for the Phillies in the next two seasons. In 2009, he again pitched in Rookie League, but also promoted to Single-A (Short Season). In 2010, Bolsenbroek pitched at the Single-A level. In his three professional seasons, he pitched in 41 games (two starts) and was 2-4 with a 2.55 ERA and four saves.

In his career with Regensburg in the highest German league (1.Bundesliga), Bolsenbroek pitched in 147 games and struckout 983 batters in 882 2/3 inning, while having a 2.04 ERA.

,,We have done everything to keep Mike'', said Regensburg's new Head Coach Tomas Bison, who was named in November. It was mentioned in the announcement that the financial offer made by Regensburg was not attractive enough for him to stay. Regensburg Boardmember Armin Zimmermann stated: ,,It's a bitter loss for us, but we do not want to deviate from our guidelines to offer our players with the best possible training-facilities and instructors to provide the best possible environment, rather than to spend the money for player salaries. We wish Mike all the best for his further career. He has done great things for Regensburg baseball'.

Mike Bolsenbroek made his debut in the Netherlands National Team in 2014 during the Haarlem Baseball Week. Since then, he pitched for the Orange-squad in all international events, which includes the 2017 World Baseball Classic. In 2014 and 2016, he won the title with the Netherlands at the European Championship. Bolsenbroek also played in the Premier12 in 2015, three Haarlem Baseball Weeks, two World Port Tournaments and last year in the Super 6.

26-year old righthander Jan Tomek this season will pitch again for Regensburg, for whom he also played in 2016. Thereafter, the Czech pitched in the Dutch big league for Curaçao Neptunus in 2017. Last year, he played for München-Haar Disciples in the German Bundesliga. There, he had a 2.62 ERA and struckout 77 batters. Since 2010, Tomek also pitched for the National Team of the Czech Republic.

While pitching for Neptunus in 2017, Tomek was 0-0 with an 0.84 ERA, appearing in six games as a reliever. He then struckout seven batters in 10 2/3 inning.
