Jurickson Profar delivers deciding basehit for Oakland

MESA / TEMPE, Arizona / TAMPA / WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (USA) - On Tuesday (March 5), five Dutch players participated in a Spring Training-game. So far, there have still been only eleven Dutch players in Spring Training with nine of them having played. Last year, a record of 23 Dutch players participated, either as a player on a 40-man roster, non-roster player or as an added Minor League-player.

Playing on Tuesday were Jurickson Profar (Oakland Athletics), Andrelton Simmons (Los Angeles Angels), Ozzie Albies (Atlanta Braves), Carter Kieboom and Spencer Kieboom (both Washington Nationals).

Profar contributed with an important 2-run single in Oakland's victory.



At Hohokam Stadium in Mesa (Arizona), Oakland Athletics played at home against Texas Rangers and won 4-1. Oakland broke a scoreless tie by scoring three runs in the sixth inning.

Jurickson Profar started at second base for Oakland and was 1-for-3, batting in two runs.

Profar led off the second and fifth inning and both time, he flied out. He then delivered an important basehit in the bottom of the sixth. In that at bat, Robbie Grossman led off with a double and scored the first run on a following single by Matt Chapman, who himself moved to second base on the throw. After the latter was replaced by pinch-runner Dustin Fowler, Stephen Piscotty also singled. The two runners advanced on a grounder, then both scored when Profar also singled to make it a 3-0 score.

Profar was replaced in the top of the eighth.



At Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe (Arizona), Los Angeles Angels won 9-2 at home against Chicago Cubs. Trailing 2-0, Los Angeles scored three runs in the third inning, then rallied for five in the fifth.

Andrelton Simmons started for Los Angeles as short stop and was 0-for-3, but batted in a run.

In the bottom of the first inning, with two runners on base, Simmons struckout to end the inning. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks struckout three batters in this inning. Simmons grounded out in the third inning.

In the fifth, Kole Calhoun led off with a homerun. Hereafter, Mike Trout singled and Albert Pujols doubled. Moments later, a run was scored on a grounder by Simmons. Hereafter, three more runs were added.

Simmons was replaced in the top of the sixth.



At George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa (Florida), New York Yankees played at home and won 5-1 against Atlanta Braves.

Ozzie Albies started at second base for Atlanta and was 0-for-3.

Albies lined out to rightfielder Aaron Judge in the first inning. With a runner on first base, Albies popped out in the fourth inning.

Albies flied out in the top of the sixth, then was replaced in the bottom of the sixth.



At FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach (Florida), Boston Red Sox won 8-4 in an away-game at Washington Nationals. Trailing 1-0, Boston rallied for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, with Boston leading 7-1, Washington scored twice. Brian Dozier led off with a walk and Carter Kieboom was then inserted as his pinch-runner. Kieboom moved to third base on a single by Victor Robles, who was replaced by pinch-runner Hunter Jones. Moments later, Kieboom and Jones both scored on a single by Austin Voth.

In the top of the seventh, Kieboom stayed in the game and took over at second base. He struckout in the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, Luis Garcia led off for Washington with a single. Hereafter, Spencer Kieboom entered the game as pinch-hitter, but flied out.
