Weather conditions disturb exhibition games
Nederlands
HAARLEM / BUSSUM / HOOFDDORP / ROTTERDAM / OOSTERHOUT (Neth.) -
As predicted, Sunday (March 10) was a windy, cold and very rainy day and so, all scheduled exhibition games involving big league-teams were cancelled.
For today, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) had issued a storm-warning for the four southernmost provinces of the country.
In the provinces of Noord-Brabant and Limburg, wind gusts (coming from the west) of more than 120 kmh (74 mph) were measured, which happens very seldom in the Netherlands.
Because of this, there was no train-traffic possible in Limburg.
Because of the extreme hard wind gusts, until late in the afternoon, no planes departed from Eindhoven International Airport (Noord-Brabant), which is the second largest airport of the country.
However, for incoming planes, it was possible to land.
With that and an average temperature of 6 degrees (42.8 F), it was no surprise that it was not possible to play a baseball-game today.
Of the six scheduled games, two already had been cancelled on Saturday.
The other four games were cancelled today.
At Haarlem, DSS had a double-header scheduled against two different teams, RCH-Pinguïns and Quick Amersfoort.
At Bussum, HCAW was to play another game against Solingen Alligators from Germany.
The two teams played a 7-inning game on Saturday.
At Hoofddorp, Meerlease Pioniers had a game scheduled against its second team, Omron Pioniers.
On Saturday, the game between Curaçao Neptunus and L&D Amsterdam Pirates, to be played today in Rotterdam, already was cancelled.
Also on Saturday, Twins Oosterhout and Hoboken Pioneers (Belgium) decided not to play today in Oosterhout after having been able to play a 9-inning game in Hoboken.
