Today was a match-up between lefthanders Jim Ploeger (Amsterdam Pirates) and Brian van Laar (Quick Amersfoort).
Ploeger's stats looked better, as he struckout ten batters, walked three and gave up six hits in six innings.
Van Laar struckout out only one batter, walked four, but gave up only five hits in the seven innings he pitched.
However, Van Laar was successful in giving up no runs, while Ploeger gave up three in the three middle innings.
Ploeger retired the side in the first and third inning.
In the second at bat, he gave up a lead-off double to Bryan Engelhardt, but he was eliminated after a pick-off.
In the top of the fourth, Ploeger gave up three basehits which led to two runs that were scored with two outs.
Joran Berkhout led off with a walk.
With one out, Rachid Engelhardt reached on an infield-hit.
And with two outs, Taylor Clemensia and Rowan van Hoek delivered back-to-back runscoring singles.
Quick got its next baserunner in the fifth.
With one out, Jordy Burger walked, but he was caught stealing to end the inning.
Quick Amersfoort added its third run in the sixth.
With one out, Rachid Engelhardt walked and Bryan Engelhardt singled.
Hereafter, Taylor Clemensia produced his second RBI-single.
Moments later, Bryan Engelhardt again was eliminated after a pick-off, then Jim Ploeger closed with a strikeout.

Amsterdam Pirates was held hitless in the first four innings by Brian van Laar
In these four at bats, the home-team got only two baserunners.
In the third, with one out, Aidan Finnegan walked, but stranded on first base.
And in the fourth, Max Clarijs led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third base on a wild pitch, but also was left behind.
Trailing 2-0, Amsterdam Pirates got a big scoring opportunity to do something back in the bottom of the fifth.
Niels van Weert and Rashid Gerard opened with singles and moved to second and third base on a passed ball.
Hereafter, the bases got loaded when Aidan Finnegan walked.
But none of them scored.
First, Roland Laurens popped up for an infield-fly.
Next batter Roelie Henrique flied out to rightfield, which led to a double play.
Gerard had left second base, returned too late and was eliminated there to complete the double play.
With two outs in the sixth, Kenny Berkenbosch and Delano Selassa both singled for Pirates, but also were left behind.
Quick was held scoreless in the final three innings.
Sam van der Ploeg led off for the team with a single in the seventh, but later stranded on second base.
The team was retired in order in the next two at bats.
Quick turned another double play in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Relievers Mark Kolner and Jan-Willem Geerts then both got a baserunner.
In the eighth, Kolner walked Gilmer Lampe, but he was forced out.
In the ninth, Geerts gave up an one-out single to Rashid Gerard, but then retired the next two batters and earned his fourth save of the season.
