ROTTERDAM (Neth.) -
Dutch baseball-player Shavently Profar, who played for Euro Stars and was only 23 years old, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (July 14).
The memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19 at 11:00 AM at the Sint Paulus Bekering Kerk at the Merellaan 352 in Capelle a/d IJssel.
Following the memorial, the funeral will be held at 2:30 PM at the Algemene Begraafplaats Holy at the Olmendreef 150 in Vlaardingen.
Preceeding the memorial service, Profar will be honored by his club Euro Stars at 10:00 AM in its clubhouse at the Capelseweg 39 in Capelle a/d IJssel.
Before the game between the Netherlands and Curaçao this afternoon in Rotterdam on Day 3 of the World Port Tournament, a impressive moment of silence was observed before the game to remember the young player.
Shavently Romano Profar, who was nicknamed 'Shavo' or 'Shav', was born on December 2, 1995.
Profar's passing came very unexpectedly.
After suffering back pains in May, a tumor was discovered.
Less than two months later, Profar passed away.
Shavently Profar is the nephew of Jurickson Profar and Juremi Profar.
Jurickson plays in the Major League for Oakland Athletics.
Juremi plays in Triple-A for Texas Rangers.
Shavently Profar started his baseball-career at Unicorns, the Rotterdam-based Baseball Academy.
He then went on to play for Tridents, the second team of Neptunus.
In 2014, Profar made his debut in the Dutch big league playing in two games for Neptunus.
He got two at bats.
Later that year, he played in one game in the Holland Series for Neptunus, with whom he won the Championship-title.
After having played for Tridents in the 2015 season, Profar transfered to Hoofddorp Pioniers.
There, during the 2016 season, the outfielder played in 32 games and batted .106 (5-for-47), scoring one run and batting in three.
Thereafter, Profar went on to play for Euro Stars in the second highest league.
The webmaster of Grand Slam * Stats & News offers his condolences to the family of Shavently and wishes them a lot of strength with this enormous loss.
