Nederlands

ROTTERDAM (Neth.) - The Netherlands Baseball Team recorded a convincing 13-3 victory in seven innings on Thursday-evening (July 18) against Team North America on Day 7 of the 17th World Port Tournament Baseball in Rotterdam. With the win, the Netherlands continues in the Play-Offs and remains in the race for Sunday's Final. For the American squad, this was its second big loss in two days after having lost 20-2 to Curaçao on Wednesday.

The Orange Team collected 19 basehits, including four by Denzel Richardson, one of them being a grand slam homerun. Gilmer Lampe (two doubles, one triple) and Jason Halman both had three basehits.

With the win, the Netherlands now will meet Chinese Taipei on Friday-evening (7 PM). The winner of that game advances to the Final. The loser gets another chance on Saturday-evening with the winner of that game becoming the second finalist and the loser finishing in third place.

With a loss, the Netherlands would have played for fourth and fifth place on Saturday. Now, the American squad will play in that game.

Earlier on Thursday, Curaçao played another good game, this time against Chinese Taipei, which finished in first place after the Preliminary Round. Curaçao trailed 5-2 after three innings, but came alongside in the fourth and took a 6-5 lead in the sixth. In the end, Curaçao was left empty-handed, as Chinese Taipei scored twice in the seventh to win 7-6.

The Netherlands opened the tournament on Friday-evening with a come-from-behind victory against Japan, winning 6-5 in ten innings.

On Saturday, the Netherlands was shutout 5-0 by the mixed team of North America. The Orange Team had no chance to do something and was held to only two basehits.

On Sunday, the Netherlands was left empty-handed again, losing 3-2 to Curaçao.

On Tuesday, the Netherlands handed Chinese Taipei its lone loss in the tournament, winning 4-1.
