HCAW leads after first day of Ringvaart Tournament
Nederlands
HEEMSTEDE (Neth.) -
HCAW leads the ranking after the first day of the fifth edition of the annual Ringvaart Tournament, organized by RCH-Pinguïns in its site in Heemstede.
All games are played on a time-limit with a maximum of one-and-a-half hour.
RCH-Pinguïns plays in the 'Overgangsklasse' (second highest league), but the other three participating in the tournament all play in the big league.
On Day 1 of the two-day tournament, HCAW won 8-3 against Silicon Storks, then came from behind to win 4-2 against Meerlease Pioniers.
The tournament opened with a 4-0 shutout-win for Pioniers against host RCH-Pinguïns.
The day also ended with a shutout, as RCH-Pinguïns recorded a minimal 1-0 win against Storks.
Last season, RCH-Pinguïns finished in third place in the 'Overgangsklasse', six points behind champion Kinheim.
By finishing in first place, Kinheim went on to play in the best-of-five Promotion/Relegation Series against Storks.
That series was won by Storks to stay in the big league.
With that, Kinheim will play again in the second highest league this year.
RCH-Pinguïns, which is coached by Marlon Frolijk, has several players on its roster who have big league-experience.
The players with the most big league-experience are Jordan Illis, Dion Steijl, Rossini Frolijk and his brother Gianni Frolijk.
Illis played for UVV (2013-2017) and DSS (2017), Steijl pitched for Kinheim (2012-2013) and Hoofddorp Pioniers (2017-2018), Rossini Frolijk played for UVV (2012-2013) and HCAW (2014-2017) and Gianni Frolijk played for HCAW (2016) and Hoofddorp Pioniers (2017).
Darryl Williams (Pioniers, 2015), Donny Hamelink (Pioniers, 2009) and Ties van der Beeke (2016, DSS) appeared in some big league-games in the past.
In its pitching-staff, RCH-Pinguïns has former professional Matz Schutte, but he never pitched in the Dutch big league.
