On Sunday (February 24), the second full day with exhibition games in Major League Spring Training, five Dutch players got into action.
Ozzie Albies (Atlanta Braves), Xander Bogaerts (Boston Red Sox) and Andrelton Simmons participated in their first game of Spring Training.
Jurickson Profar and Carter Kieboom also played.
With this, eight of the eleven Dutch players have now seen action.
Albies, Profar and Kieboom all recorded a basehit.
At FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach (Florida), Atlanta Braves played an away-game against a split-squad of Houston Astros and lost 5-2.
Ozzie Albies was the starting second baseman for Atlanta and batted second.
He was 1-for-2.
In the top of the first inning, Ronald Acuña led off for Atlanta wiht a walk and advanced to third base on a following single by Ozzie Albies, who himself ended on second base on the throw.
The two were then unable to advance on a grounder to short stop.
Next, a grounder by Alejandro Salazar resulted in an inning-ending double play with Acuña being eliminated in a run-down between third base and home plate.
Albies led off the fourth inning and then grounded out.
He was then replaced in the bottom of the fifth.
At jetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers (Florida), World Series-champion Boston Red Sox played at home against Minnesota Twins and won 8-5.
Trailing 5-4, the BoSox rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to turn the game their way. Xander Bogaerts batted fourth for Boston, started as short stop and was 0-for-2.
With Minnesota leading 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Jackie Bradley, Jr. homered for Boston.
In this at bat, the inning ended when Bogaerts grounded out.
In the fourth, Bogaerts led off, but struckout.
He then was replaced in the top of the fifth.
At Tempe Diablo Stadium in Tempe (Arizona), a split-squad of Los Angeles Angels played at home against Cincinnati Reds and lost 14-2.
Andrelton Simmons was the starting short stop and second batter for the Angels-team.
He was 0-for-2.
In the bottom of the first inning, Simmons popped out to third base.
He then flied out to leftfield in the third at bat, then was replaced when the fourth inning began.
At Hohokam Stadium in Mesa (Arizona), Oakland Athletics played at home against Kansas City Royals and lost 14-5.
Jurickson Profar was the starting second baseman for Oakland and batted 1-for-3.
Profar struckout in the first inning after Kansas City had rallied for six runs in the top of the first inning.
In the second inning, Oakland scored three runs.
With the bases loaded, one out and after a pitching change, Profar connected for a line drive.
But that was caught by short stop Nicky Lopez and ended in an inning-ending unassisted double play.
In the fifth inning, with one out, Profar singled, but then was eliminated in a double play.
He then left the game in the top of the sixth.
At Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter (Florida), Washington Nationals played at St. Louis Cardinals and won 12-2.
Carter Kieboom was inserted as pinch-hitter, stayed in the game as designated hitter, walked, hit a single and batted in a run.
With a 4-2 lead, Washington added four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Jacob Wilson led off with a homerun, Jake Noll added a runscoring single.
Hereafter, Pedro Severino walked, but was forced out moments later.
That brought Noll to third base and he scored when Carter Kieboom delivered an runscoring pinch-hit single.
Later, another run was added, but Kieboom stranded on third base.
In the seventh, Washington scored three more runs.
In this at bat, Kieboom walked, but was left behind on first base.
In the top of the ninth, Kieboom was replaced by a pinch-hitter.
