DSS empty-handed on Day 2 Wim Oosterhof Tournament
Nederlands

HAARLEM (Neth.) - On Saturday, DSS won its first game, then played a tie in its next match-up on Day 1 of the Wim Oosterhof Tournament. But on Sunday (March 24), the Haarlem-team was left empty-handed in its next two games.

In the first game today, DSS again failed to hold a lead again vs. host Kinheim. On Saturday, DSS led 5-1, but the game ended with a 5-5 score. Today, DSS led 4-1 vs. Kinheim, which came back again and this time won 6-5.

In the second and final game today, DSS was outscored 7-3 by Onze Gezellen.

In advance, it was agreed that DSS would be the lone team in the tournament to play four games. Kinheim and Onze Gezellen played three games. Based on the results, Kinheim finished in first place.

Game 4 - DSS vs. Kinheim
Kinheim opened the score with one run in the top of the second inning off of DSS-starter Sander Helmendach, but the lead was brief. However, trailing 4-1, it was Kinheim that turned around the game again in its favor by scoring five runs in the fifth inning to win 6-5.

Trailing 1-0, DSS scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning off of starter Rick Timmermans. Leandro Anasagasti (walk) and Daniel Heiligers (single) then both scored on a double by Devano Pieter. An error following on a single by Odion Gouverneur enabled Pieter to score the next run.

DSS added a run in the third inning. Koen Werkman then doubled and Leandro Anasagasti walked, which was followed by a runscoring single from Diamond Silberie.

In the top of the fifth inning, with DSS leading 4-1, Kinheim struck off of relievers Ben Neijndorff and Robyn Clara by scoring five runs. In these innings, the DSS-defense didn't play that well. With two runners on base, a pop-fly single into centerfield by Bram Blokker ended in a 'homerun'. While the two runners went on scoring, the ball was thrown to the plate, then back to second base for a throwing error, enabling Blokker also to score to make it a 4-4 score. Moments later, Kinheim added two more runs to take a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, DSS got one run back. Koen Werkman then walked, advanced on a flyout by Leandro Anagasti and a single by Koen Halderman, then scored on a single by Diamond Silberie.

In the seventh inning, it was decided that only DSS would get an extra at bat, but that remained scoreless.

Game 5 - Onze Gezellen vs. DSS
In its final game of the weekend, DSS faced an early deficit against Onze Gezellen, came alongside, but in the end, the team lost 7-3.

Former professional Juan Carlos Sulbaran made his pitching-debut in a DSS-uniform and threw the first inning. The righthander struckout three batters, but also walked two, gave up two hits and gave up two runs in his first outing.

Onze Gezellen added a run on Sulbaran's successor Andrew Wanapa, who last season played for Hoofddorp Pioniers. Wanapa is currently a non-roster player at DSS.

In the top of the third inning, DSS scored three runs to come alongside. In the inning, the bases got loaded when Devano Pieter and Odion Gouverneur walked and Mitchel Dautzenberg singled. A run was then scored when Tino van Erk also singled. Moments later, Gouverneur scored on a wild pitch, then Dautzenberg scored the tying run on a single by Brian Raap. While this was a productive inning, then scoring stopped thereafter.

In the bottom of the third inning, Onze Gezellen reached base off of Wanapa, who was relieved by Moreno Vork. The opponent continued the rally and scored four runs to turn the game its way. Vork threw two scoreless innings thereafter, but DSS also was held scoreless in its final two at bats.

Looking back to the weekend, DSS Head Coach Marco Wels said: ,,This was a good start for us. It was the first time that we were able to do something outdoors. We've played some 20 innings this weekend, that is quite an accomplishment. With that, I think, we have nothing to complain''.
