Carter Kieboom hits another Spring Training-basehit

On Wednesday (February 27), five Dutch players saw action during Major League Spring Training, being Ozzie Albies (Atlanta Braves), Xander Bogaerts (Boston Red Sox), Carter Kieboom (Washington Nationals, Jurickson Profar (Oakland Athletics) and Andrelton Simmons (Los Angeles Angels).
Kieboom and Simmons both recorded a basehit.
For Kieboom, this was his third basehit in five at bats in four games, in which he also received three walks.
After last season, the 21-year old short stop was named Organizational Player of the Year for Washington.
He received an invitation to be a non-roster player during this years Spring Training and so far, he is doing fine.
One of his three basehits was a double and he also scored a run and batted in one.
A year ago, Kieboom was 1-for-6 in five Spring Training-games.
At Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter (Florida), Atlanta Braves visited St. Louis Cardinals and recorded a 4-0 shutout.
Ozzie Albies started as second baseman for Atlanta and was 0-for-2 with a walk.
In the top of the first inning, Albies struckout.
He then flied out in the fourth, but in the sixth, Albies walked with two outs.
Next batter Charlie Culberson also walked, but the two were left behind.
In the bottom of the sixth, Albies was replaced.
At FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach (Florida), Washington Nationals hosted Houston Astros and won 14-8.
In the top of the seventh, with Washington leading 14-2, Carter Kieboom entered the game as new short stop for the Nationals.
Houston rallied for four runs, but Washington hold onto the lead.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Kieboom singled in his lone at bat in the game.
He stranded on first base.
At jetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers (Florida), a split-squad of Boston Red Sox played at home against Baltimore Orioles and lost 7-6.
Xander Bogaerts was the starting short stop for Boston and batted fourth, but he was 0-for-2.
In the bottom of the first inning, Jackie Bradley, Jr. led off for Boston with a homerun and Eduardo Nunez singled with one out.
But hereafter, Bogaerts struckout and Nunez was left behind.
Bogaerts flied out in the third inning and was then replaced in the top of the fifth.
At Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale (Arizona), Los Angeles Angeles played an away-game against Colorado Rockies and won 9-7.
Andrelton Simmons started as short stop for Los Angeles and batted 1-for-3.
With one out in the top of the first inning, Simmons singled and moved on a wild pitch.
Next batter Albert Pujols walked, but a double play ended the at bat.
In the third inning, with one out, Simmons hit a line drive, but that was caught by rightfielder Charlie Blackmon.
Simmons popped out in the fifth inning, then was replaced in the bottom of the fifth.
At Hohoham Stadium in Mesa (Arizona), Oakland Athletics played at home against Los Angeles Dodgers and lost 5-3.
Jurickson Profar started at second base for Oakland and batted 0-for-2 with a walk.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Mark Canha walked an moved on a wild pitch.
Profar was the next hitter and also walked
The bases got loaded when Chad Pinder reached on an error, but the three runners were left behind when the inning ended with a strikeout.
Profar struckout in the fourth and flied out in the seventh.
He was then replaced in the top of the eighth.
