Carter Kieboom hits second homerun and makes history
Nederlands

WASHINGTON, DC (USA) - Two days after hitting a homerun in his debut in the Major League on Friday, Carter Kieboom hit another homerun for Washington Nationals on Sunday (April 28) against San Diego Padres. This time, he wrote history with his fourbagger.

While the news already had been reported on Thursday, Kieboom was officially recalled by Washington on Friday. In the evening, he made his debut in the opening game of a series against San Diego. In that game, the 21-year old short stop struckout and grounded out in his first two big league at bats. But with Washington trailing 3-2, Kieboom hit a homerun in the eighth inning, which made it a 3-3. With that, he joined a small group of players whose first big league basehit is a homerun. In the ninth, he got his fourth at bat with the bases loaded and Washington trailing 4-3. This time, he struckout.

On Saturday, Kieboom was 0-for-4. But in Sunday's game, the Dutch/American infielder was 2-for-4, including another homerun. Washington won the game 7-6 in eleven innings. In today's game, Kieboom batted seventh and he flied out in his first at bat in the second inning.

Initially, it didn't appear that Washington would end up as the winning team, as San Diego led 6-0 halfway the third inning! However, San Diego was then held scoreless, while Washington came back.

In the bottom of the third, Washington Nationals scored four runs. With one out, Victor Robles and Brian Dozier singled, then Juan Soto homered. Next batter Howie Kendrick reached on an error and scored on a 2-out single by Kurt Suzuki. The bases got loaded when Carter Kieboom also singled and Michael A. Taylor walked, but the three runners were left behind when pinch-hitter Adam Eaton struckout.

In the fourth, Victor Robles led off with a homerun to make it a 6-5 score.

And with one out in the fifth, Carter Kieboom hit his second homerun in three days to put Washington alongside, 6-6.

After Suzuki had led off the seventh with a single, Kieboom walked, but the next three batters struckout. Kieboom struckout himself in the bottom of the ninth.

In the bottom of the eleventh inning, Matt Adams led off for Washington with a walk-off homerun that gave his team a 7-6 victory.

With their homeruns, Juan Soto, Victor Robles and Carter Kieboom wrote baseball-history. They became the first trio of teammates who 21 or younger to hit a homerun in the same game, something which had not done before in Major League-history! Soto is 20 year old, Robles turns 22 in May and Kieboom is also 21.

The last time that a team had three players younger than 22 in the starting line-up was in 1997 when it was done by Florida Marlins.
